I'm considering buyin an 07 3L Legacy estate from a friend, with a fresh MOT.
With the caveat that it needs a rear subframe soon.
I'm thinking I do it straight away to avoid any potential issues or surprises.
Where's best to get a replacement? I looked on Amayama and they have one for £400.
Not had much luck with the breakers so far, but I think it could be an okay route if i get it sand blasted and re-coated.
Thoughts?
Any more common pitfalls I maybe haven't considered yet?
Or any sticking points while replacing the subframe, does it have to be a 3L subframe or can it be any mk4 estate subframe?
Buy new ,should last 15 years.
Sandblasting and powdercoating old one will cost You approx 200 quid.
Better to buy new for 400 i think ,I did it on my 06 jdm hawk sti ,seen my old rusty subframes and decided to not put them back.

If they arent a known issue just but a secondhand one and paint that, Id actually not powdercoat if its a daily, Id get it undersealed/schultz/lanoguard of your choice,
Powder coat doesnt like stone chips, once you get a few chips and water gets under, well you can guess.

Even if you get a brand new replacement, I wouldn’t fit it as it is before getting it properly coated. Epoxy mastic with a 2k or chassis paint on top is my choice but everybody has their way of doing things. I’d agree totally about powder coat being unsuitable. I’m getting some parts powder coated for my new Legacy but I don’t expect that to last as long as epoxy/paint but it gets the road on the car quicker for now which is the priority for me.
