Question Hawkeye STI rear struts question!

Hey all,

Hope you're well. I was wondering if it's possible to put the Blob/Bug STI rear struts(shocks) on my 2006 Hawkeye STI?

One of my rear struts has failed and I'm trying to find oem subaru replacement which is proving difficult.

Thank you

Hi 2pot

Thanks for the replies. I searched for parts 321004 and 321005 and found these from scoobworx for £195 https://scoobyworx.com/kyb-ultra-sr-...05-17059-p.asp

I've been trying to figure out if the KYB's (Or any other brand), will lower the height compared to standard? If so, that means the car won't probably sit right if I'm still running the standard front struts right?

I came across some coilovers from Pedders that would fit https://pedders.co.uk/extreme-xa-coilover-kit-160023

Are there any coilovers would you recommend? I use my car for a daily - no tracks but I am budget concious atm 😭

edit: looks like coilovers are **** for daily so scrap that lol

Hi 2pot - ^ are these are preferred over the 321004 and 321005 part numbers you mentioned earlier?

That's £195 each - they're cheaper on ebay.

KYB made the original Subaru struts = same ride height. The paint longevity isn't as good as the originals though.

I wouldn't recommend cheap coilovers on a road car. They're always too stiff, especially at the front = pitch.

Your sti front springs are 223lb/in, rear 171-195lb/in

Your stock ride heights when new were f385mm/r365mm with a full tank. You may have some spring sagging over time and the rubber section of the top mounts compresses, also lowering ride height.

hi 2pot..

Thanks for all the information. After doing some researching I went with the silver ones you mentioned (kyb 5510029 & kyb 5510030).

best coilovers for daily sti are ohlins dsv r&t approx 4k pounds or MeisterR gt1's for 1.8k , both use similar valving.
Im on gt1's and on softer settings car feels better/softer than oem struts

Hey @2pot

I got one of the struts today (5510030), the other is coming on Monday (I ordered on Weds so pretty fast delivery from usa).

I have ordered springs from importcarparts.co.uk and these are the springs that match the part number based on the Subaru parts catalogue:

https://www.importcarparts.co.uk/pro...rings-sbsu471/

Anyhow! I was reading a thread by RichDoobie who ordered the same strut family but for his fronts.. and in one of the videos he is replacing the bump stop (internal) because I think he went for lowering springs: https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...on-struts.html

My question is do the rear struts I have kyb 5510029 & kyb 5510030, have bump stops built in? or do I need to transfer them from the old struts? I haven't taken the old struts apart as yet as I was set back with a seized lower strut bolt which was a pita!

Your new struts already have internal bump stops fitted.

Yes, Rich is using my front lowering springs. Due to the lowering, he's using 20mm shorter front bump stops, On undulating/uneven roads, this both reduces understeer and improves ride-quality.

ahh lovely mate - thanks for confirming. I should have ordered a front set too as they look on their way out.. but one job at a time. Will report back once I finally have the new struts on the car.
