Legacy 4 JDM to UK head unit swap

Legacy 4 JDM to UK head unit swap
I have a 2007 JDM Legacy with the stock radio/CD and A/C unit.
all I want to do is swap this out for an equivalent unit from a UK Legacy (so I can listen to the radio!)
The JDM unit and UK unit look identical (apart from the mini disc player), is it a straight swap?
If I buy a UK head unit from a scrappy and it has no code, can I re-code it to my car and if so how? Or do I need the code for the new unit?

pretty sure you need to re-code to the BCU and it may well not be a straight swap anyhows........??
