Hi,

Ive refurbed front and rear calipers.

Ive rebled the system in the correct sequence ( on multiple occasions now ) and although fluid is passing through the bleed nipples and the pedal gets hard after a couple of pumps, it goes to the floor a few seconds after pumping.

There is zero braking - nothing - if i remove the hand brake, the car just rolls with the brake on.

Obviously ive done my research on here before posting, and i dont think its the MC / Servo ( could be, but worked fine prior to removing calipers )

So thinking along the lines of ABS pump ? ( 1999 RB5 ) - i read on a US forum about forcing the cycle of the ABS pump, as these can sometimes hold air?

Not sure if this is applicable to a UK car ?

firstly do you have the bleed nipples at the top side of the caliper??
basic mistake many people make when refitting them as they will bolt to either upright........

after that its either leaking past the seals or you have a basic leak on a pipe, etc somewhere??

I'll check that tonight, as they were totally stripped down and i could have made that mistake.

No leaks elsewhere.. but i'll check the nipples.

You have a leak in the system somewhere. Air in the system would be a consistent soft pedal. If the pedal goes to the floor, the brake system has lost pressure (pressure always follows the path of least resistance) ie: you have a leaking union or seal. It can be as simple as a brake nipple not being tightened enough - which is common as people are scared of stripping the threads. Check also hose connection to calipers and brake pipes.

Checked last night and the bleed nipple is at the bottom of the caliper.

Is this the correct location ?

Bleed nipple(s) should be at the top of the caliper. You'll almost certainly have a massive amount of air trapped in the top of the caliper with them at the bottom that's impossible to remove.

 

As others have said, nipples need to be at the top as air rises.

technically, you asked if they were at the top - i wasnt sure if they needed to be at the top, or that was wrong and they should be at the bottom..
