Having had little or no input from the trade, (emails not replied to, promised call backs not happening), I've just about settled on Tein Flex Z coilovers.
Any comments on getting them fitted and set up, I'm based in Scunthorpe.

Two questions:
If I get them fitted locally, or we do it ourselves, how far can I safely drive it to get alignment done properly, ie, before it starts to scrub my tyres irreversibly? Present setup done at Carnetix, Melton Mowbray, excellent but 80 miles.

Secondly, the lass next door has a racing Corolla with the Tein EDFC controller.
Is it worth it for me, fast road, no track?

My eldest wants me to buy Cusco, but £2k against £900?

Id say youll be fine driving the car alignment wise, ive fitted quite a few sets over the years.

The toe will be the worst depending on how much lower you go with the steering rack going lower to the floor as a result of the lowering

Even still it shouldnt cause anything major for a drive to an alignment garage

If mainly road driving youll most likely fiddle about with the dampers for a little while and eventually stop on 1 set of settings

So EDCC maybe not worth it, although i bet its pretty cool to have!

Going with Tein Flex Z, fingers crossed.
Should be done early July, suspension being delivered today or tomorrow.

 

What made you choose the Tein flex z over say BC coilovers? is it just the EDFC controller? I want to change my suspension and deciding between these or the BC ERs. I like the idea of the controller but would i actually put it on, I don't know. But they are half the price of the BCs without the controller.

 

I'm removing BC units.
They have rusted solid around the adjusters, and one has failed.
I'm hoping it'll be a case of pay more, higher quality.
I know you can pay BIG money, but the car's had enough spent on it...for a while,🙂 so the £8000 22B setup wasn't an option.
Not bothered for the edfc, it'd not get enough use.

Just wish it had all been as easy and cheap as when I upgraded the suspension on a MkI Escort: Mexico arb, Escort van strut inserts, Armstrong adjustable shockers on the rear, and a pair of second hand spring assisters, made for towing.
Under £100 and a transformation! Guy at the local garage called it the gutless wonder😄

 

Well it went to be worked on 1st July.

Fetched it back today.
Car now drives as it should again, perhaps harder than standard, but no knocks and bangs.
Considering it has solid drop links, harder front and rear arb bushes and a stiffer rear arb, it's pretty forgiving.
Score one for Tein

But why does the instruction manual say it's for off road use only?

 

Just wording for liability reasons most likely.

What weight springs are they? I think that plays a massive part in how coilovers perform on the road.

Ordered at 1520, delivered by 0950 next day.
