Hi, Had the 5-speed in my WRX blow on me and I was doing some research and found a company and started asking them about Subaru Gearboxes and he recommended me the JDM Subaru 5 Speed from 2005 from the latest Blobeye, I got the gearbox and rear Diff and also the drive shafts, would this be better than the UK SPEC 2002 Bugeye Tranmission?

I was recommend this by Nippon AutoSpares and the gearbox code is the TY754VBBBA from a Blobeye in 2005 JDM, I was just wondering how strong this gearbox is compared to the UK spec 5 speed from 2002 which are not all great. And how much torque should it be maxed at?

The car has Latest EJ20 semi closed deck 2.0, it it running around 350hp+ haven't dyno'd yet, so hopefully this JDM gearbox will be just fine. I don't rag the car around, never done a single launch, however I do the occasional pull starting in 2nd.

Only difference seems to be that the Legacy box has suddenly morphed into an Impreza box with the same transmission code.
@stockcar 's reply (post #7) still stands wrt strength.

FYI the box in a 2005 JDM WRX is either a Revision "E"- TY754VB6AA or Revision "F" - TY754VB7AA depending if you are talking "Revision"(Model Year equivalent) or "actual" year of manufacture.

 

I head that the later year of the 5 speed gearboxes have a few mm extra gears, and also heard that the Subaru's from Japan also have stronger gears compared to the UK spec cars.

The TY754 5MT box has been basically the same since it came into use with the MY99 WRX and Turbo 2000 models and is stronger than the previous TY752 versions.

As Stockcar (of AS Performance fame) replied (in the other thread) "in general terms all of the TY754 5spd boxes are the same strength...........simply get the correct UK ratio box to solve".
