hi all i am going about changing the rear subframe on a 2002 bug wagon . now i got hold of a good one off a 2005 sti and being told they fit . but on looking at the bolt mounting holes they are larger then what i have on the original . is there a different bolt for the sti like the picture or maybe an insert . or anything else i may come across fitting this
Rear Subframe bolts lists in the Database for all newage Impreza rear subframe mounting is 901000206
It also has a "stopper" (washer) fitted under the bolt head - 20176FE000
20540AC050 appears to be a single bolt (with three others) used for SF5 forester subframes as below
There is provision made to lock the subframe in position (for alignment) before tightening up the 4 main bolts.
Subframe lock bolts are made by Whiteline, Perrin and others, and can be left in place.
hi Don thanks for reply . i have not as yet removed the old subframe was just checking bolts are correct . i have new bolts as listed but there seems to be 2-3 mm clearance each side is there an insert or locator for the subframe maybe or are they a loose fit so to speak
AFAIK they are a loose fit and just clamp the subframe bushes in place allowing the rubber bushes to do their thing.
As I say a lot of people (me included back in my forester days) fitted the subframe locking bolts as well to reduce subframe movement.
I'm not so sure if that stopper washer is used on cars which have the solid mounted subframe, at least looking at jp-carparts.com. I think they went back to rubber mounts on Hawkeye STI:s but I'm not so sure about that.
The subframe in the pictures above looks like the solid mount version.
I bought a new solid mounted newage subframe recently, the one behind is my original solid mounted classic Type R one. I think I bought the 901000206 bolts

yep the one i have is off an sti 2005 the thing whats thrown me is the bolts and size of fixing hole . normally i would exspect the bolt to be flush with the hole and not floppy just dont seem correct but have been told the bolts are the same for all years wrx and sti
I checked my classic solid mount subframe and the bolts are that loose on that aswell. Maybe it's a good idea to push it forward equally much on both sides when refitting it.

As per when the drivetrain was "married" to the body in the factory, you should fit guide dowels or subframe locking bolts, in the appropriate holes, to align the subframe and then tighten the four main bolts to the correct torque.
