Default Dominator 1.5XT-R Ball Bearing (sc42) turbo

Alright guys,

Can anyone help me with a technical query in regards to the turbo above? I understand this turbo once it hits UK shores at scoobyclinic its the same unit but with a 7cm exhaust housing.

I'm working out in the states for couple months and this turbo with an 8cm housing is about £500 cheaper if I buy it whilst here. My question is will this still be a direct fit turbo for my 04 UK spec sti?

im looking to a run this turbo on my car. Stock motor, 850 injectors, fuel pump exhaust etc.

Thanks

can't help you with that turbo but might also be worth you looking at some of the forced performance turbos aswell as they are very good and prices are good aswell

I have had a look at these but the cheaper units are still journal bearing and seem to be rated for 450whp upwards. If this is true then surely these units will be laggy on a stock 2.0?

they have got ceramic bearing versions but they are well over 2000 dollars.

Direct fit yes, but you won't get the same results as the spec is different

I bought through circuit motorsports in Florida, you can spec it with the 7cm housing, the guys at Blouch are pretty good.

But you can't buy the exact spec of the sc series direct from blouch.

Unlikely that it will make much difference IMO - it's not like Blouch will willingly sell a worse wheel to their other customers than what they send to Scoobyclinic, especially given that the size of the UK modified Subaru market is tiny in comparison to the US market.

You can buy one with a 7cm housing, which is what was asked... You can spec it as you want, not sure if you can get the exact spec of the sc42 as no one has been definitive as to what that is... but I'm sure it'll be pretty close.

i think you have to be realistic as far as turbos go ,theres no free lunch and any turbo that can flow enough air in the turbine for 400bhp+ especially on standard 2.0litre setup will be fairly laggy ,,have to say it gets second nature to just drop a gear or two to get the revs up a bit though

My advice would be buy from USA ✅

i bought a Blouch XTR 2.5 ‘polka pickle’ with 8cm hotside direct from Blouch.

The 1.5 is suited more for the 2.0 or 2.1 and will be a superb choice.

Over the years I’ve had a little bit of conversation from boss Mike @ Blouch -

I understood SC add a badge to a standard Blouch unit ... not a special spec for them. 😉

I do find it amusing that I keep getting called a fanboy of clinic, then when I say info about there stuff I get told I'm wrong lol

If you think its not a custom unit to them then crack

What difference does the housing make? Is it a case of fitting or is the difference in the performance. I ask as I am considering one of these turbos for my forged 2.5ltr.
Thanks

The smaller housing generally promotes better spool because of increased velocity of the exhaust gases over the turbine, but also cannot flow as much gases in total. I.e. it seems that if you have the same turbo (exhaust wheel and comp wheel etc etc), and change the exhaust housing only, with a 7cm you would have better spool than with an 8cm housing, but the 8cm housing would go on to make more power.

Both the 7cm and 8cm housings would have the same fitting flanges (as long as they're both compatible with a subaru of whatever year you are looking at)

I’ve got a sc42 with 8cm housing on my forged 2.5. Great turbo instant boost above 4k and made 433bhp.

Exactly its a case of measuring the size of the wheels inside.

If you think SC have some super special magical turbo wheels that's only available to them, then you need your head checked.

Stick a 7cm on the Blouch you will have the same turbo.

It's not rocket science all u need is a measuring device & a pair of eyes.

Pretty much dinosaurs of the turbo world now

Btw Glad to be back

Hope to collect a Fozzy Sti in next few weeks
