Hi peeps....

im looking into getting my calipers re painted as there flakey around the bleed nipples
my only issue is where to get them done.... I want to go with the oe paint scheme to
keep it original. The only issue is there ra-r calipers change colour with heat so they start
off a very light gold and turn silver when up to temp..

Dose anyone know the paint / code for the calipers by chance and anywhere I might be able to
get them re painted back to there best

I emailed Ian @ Godspeed Yesterday, he got back to me this morning
he said he was unable to help as it’s a paint and they only powder coat
so not to sure what to do.

 

Drop scoobyclinic an email mate with your requirements...they might be able to help

 

You could try import car parts aswell

This is Ian’s gold vs OEM Brembo Gold. It looks comparable to your colour?

get fronts and rears done so they match

 

I want to keep the the calipers in the heat sensitive paint so they change colour
paint or powder coat dosnt make a difference to me but I want the same effect
and as close colour wise as possible...

yes that pic above is cold, when hot they turn a silver colour then back to gold above
when cooled down again.

 

It’s hard enough matching the solid Brembo gold.. I’d say your options are as follows;

live with it
get new/better condition callipers
refurb fronts and rears in a matching colour.

If the colour change matters that much to you I respect that, but I doubt anyone else will notice.

these guys do thermo paints and clear coats so be worth contacting them for a chat

 

The closest paint colour to brembo gold is Humbrol 54, Metallic Brass that was recommended by my mate,which is a near perfect match.SJ.

 

It looks a close match when wet but not when dry and heated from what I saw? Odd that there isn't a readily available solution to such a mass produced part. Its not like the brembos were on limited edition cars.

 

The 2007 RA-R calipers are coated in a heat sensitive paint

The colour is silver when cold, changing to gold when under high heat. Then reverting back to silver when cold.

Heavily tracked RA-R calipers will permanently turn the paint to have a gold tinge. This is due to the calipers having some substantial heat through them, likely from heavy track use.

The colour on your calipers shows sign of this. The flaking from the bleed nipple area is likely down to brake fluid contact in the past along with potentially having heat applied to release the bleed nipple.

 

that’s would explain the slight gold effect from cold... Tom do you no if it’s possible to get them refurbed as close to original as possible
wanted to keep the car as standard as possible but struggling here any thoughts would be great...

 

lt looked perfect on my wife's brembo calipers and she's not the lightest user of brakes.SJ.

 

Your best option would be to get as close a match to the original silver colour as possible.

I'm not sure if anyone in UK can recoat the calipers in a heat sensitive paint finish.

Also worth mentioning that the dust seals are an STi part, so aren't cheap and easy to buy!
