Default WRX STI Tapping sound from engine

Been away from the Scooby scene for a few years, but saw a nice little 2012 WRX STI for sale before Xmas and jumped back in...

Anyway, bought the car from a reputable dealer, and it came with a 12 month gold warranty.

Last week driving home from work, not going overly fast, the engine starts making a weird rattle/tapping sound. Managed to coast home slowly, just in case. Noticed the tapping noise gets a lot worse when hit 3000 rpm.

The car is also really noisy when it starts up. It goes quieter after about 10 seconds, buy you still hear a little tapping when it's idling.

Had a local garage have a look and they say it's probably the crankshaft and that engine is f***ed. Spoke to the dealer and they say they're not sure that would be covered. The limit in the warranty is apparently £500 per claim, despite listing the crankshaft as a covered part.

The car is in finance. What should I do? I want to reject the car if I can, think I've got grounds?

I've put a video up of the tapping here:. https://youtu.be/oWC7j3ajr7A. It's a lot noisier in real life than on the video.

Does it sound like the crankshaft or something else? Love the car but don't want to have them do a shoddy job and end up with it going again when I've got no comeback.

Any advice appreciated...

Bottom ends gone its on the overrun when it knocks. Difficult situation do you bother rebuilding a 2.5 bottom end with standard parts.

I'm totally naive when it comes to mechanics... When you say the bottom end has gone, I take it that's bad and means an engine rebuild/replacement/lots of money?
