Default Subaru diesel EE20 - sadly blown up.

Good evening. I hope you have all had a good Christmas?I'm without my Outback at Christmas in a while! Boo Hoo

I've now had time to sit down and register to seek your views on a technical failure on my Subaru Outback Diesel 2010 with 113,300 miles. In September, I was driving back home when the engine raced, the intercooler pooped off and lots of smoke ensued. Immediately shut off of the engine, which worked and after some time, was able to drive to a pull in off the road and was able to drive onto the lorry for recovery.
It's now is in dry storage for future repair with a dull replacement car (Volvo) having been acquired. I have been advised that the turbo may have gone.

I had been having oil consumption problems for the past 6 months and was eventually adding 1ltr of oil every 10 days or so for about 3 months. Excessive I know but I religiously changed the oil every 5000 miles so considered it was mitigating an issue.
Engine DPF light was going off and on towards the end but could be cleared with a long run.

What could this be? A long shot I know.
I'm interested in anyone's views as I plan to keep the car in dry storage for a retirement projects it maybe a cool car in future years. Lastly, is there any websites / documentation that exists on the specs of bolts etc, for this engine?

OK, many thanks for your time

Christopher
