hi everyone
i have a really big problem with my 94 WRX
.
Every time its on full throttle, at about 5500 rpm it splutters and sometimes even cuts the ignition (the rev counter needle just drops to zero very briefly).
I have changed the spark plugs and fuel filter and checked the MAF sensor connection all of which are fine and have made no difference. The only other explanation is that i recently changed the cam belt, and although all the markings were lined up, maybe the timing may be out by a tooth. But surely if the timing was out, the engine would be down on power and running roughly ALL the time. I really don't know what else to do. The next step is to take it to a specialist to see what the hell is going on.
Has anyone had this problem before or can ANYONE help me?

hi Ian, thanks for replying
no i didn't change the coil packs, but heres what i have done so far:
1. changed cam belt
2. took for test run - seemed fine
3. put new plugs in, but didn't thrash it until until next day when i filled up after letting tank run too low (bad i know)
4. noticed spluttering and assumed that i had picked up some rubbish from bottom of fuel tank. Put some redex fuel injector cleaner and ran for 200 miles.
5. changed fuel filter and spark plugs back to original plugs.
.. and it still does it.

mul,I know very little about nothing but I had a slightly similar problem in my car and it turned out to be the fuel pump.This can be tested for under the bonnet with a guage of some sort.I think the maximum pressure should be about 6 bar.Just something for you to consider.Good luck as it took about £300 in repeated trips and labour charges to find the problem and another £175 to fix it!!!! Deep.
