Default 1997 wrx engine in 2001

hey there im new to this site and have not found a topic that could help soo my situation is i agreed to help a friend swap a motor into his 2001 wrx hatch. now he said this would be a plug and play situation but its not the engine is out off a 1997 wrx i believe and he has all the 1997 loom with it the engine loom and the dash fuse box ect. now this is the only engine he has to swap in so im screwed as iv never delt with wirring stuff can someone on here please help me and let me know if this is possible? if so how? would i have to merge the 1997 loom with the 2001 or? any help is much apprciated

The short block will be easier to swap over if his heads are ok?
I'm sure you can swap the whole engine but it will be a big job.

Your sure it's a hatch? Is it 2001 or 2011?
2001 will be bugeye

Hey guys yess its the bug eye 2001 model i dont think the heads are good as the old motor was run with out oil. And just in bad condition in general.
