I've had a bad winter experience wth my 2016 STi and a set of Continental WinterContact TS850 Ps (awful aquaplaning) and I need to get rid of them asap.

The car came with Dunlop Sport Maxx RTs (RT 245/40R18 97W) and I'm looking at getting these again just so I'm back where I started and I'll know if the poor handling was due to the Continentals.

It looks like the Dunlops only come in XL form. Is this OK?
And if anyone else has had similar problems with winter Continentals let me know.

I've been running Uniroyal Rainsport 3's this winter and have been very impressed. The car as good in the wet as it does in the dry. I've had no aqua planning at all.

 

I have found Continentals Ts850 very good this winter in a 120d. Great grip and progressive at the limit. I wonder if the aquaplanning was due to the tyre width more than anything else.

 

i have just put some goodyear eagle f1 assymetric 3's on my car and impressed with the grip and noise level is good as well

Will there be any issues in buying the XL tyres as Dunlop don't seem to do the Sports Maxx in normal type?

 

XL is just extra load, Which will be a bit stiffer in the sidewall which will be no bad thing
