Default silicone intake pipes

Hi all, i'm going to be doing some upgrades on my blobeye sti over the winter and 1 thing thats always had me curious is the silicone intake pipes.

At what point does the standard pipe become a problem? Do people just change to a silicone one as theyre easier to fit? Are they better or just a fancy add on?

I've sourced an sc42 for the car and its standard intake size so wondered if I should consider a new pipe? Neither of my mates are running one on their Blobs and are running similar spec to what mine will be, Im just one of those people who doesnt like to overlook things.

Would be interested in peoples opinions and any factual backup.

Was told by Andy Forrest that it only increases compressor surge and that most of them collapse under boost,

Either get a custom hard pipe made or leave stock was the advise i got

Would be good to see back to back test of stock vs silicone where thats the only change.
