Default performance friction rotors

hi all, after having my rotors replaced with new pf rorotrs and pads the garage did mention that the nuts would need to be tightend again so been ok for 100 miles now can here them ticking

i have rang the garage they can do it for me but unfortunetly with new hours i cant make it

so i tried it myself and it appears the nut size is 7.5mm but i dont have one of those every other size but

8mm fit but will round the nut

can anyone help?

They're actually 10/32 nuts, and you'll need a 5/16" AF socket for these. Best go and buy one from a tool shop.

THanks for that u may need to purchase a quality socket as my 5/16 seem the same as an 8 mm

Yours is nore than likely 5/16 inperial not AF

5/16 AF is 7.9mm, so would be very close to 8mm for sure.

I know when I changed mine I had to rummage around to find the right socket - but it was 4 years ago and I can't quite remember the details. 99% sure I had to use my imperial/AF set though.

I don't think the PF nuts are Whitworth, but if so it would be a 3/8" AF.

i tell you what your right , im off out now to see if i can buy an af set and get these rotors sorted

Are there some Allen socket-head bolts too? From memory I think so - and you'll need a decent set of imperial allen keys too. Not all sets have keys in 1/16" increments. PITA!

Can I ask what causes the ticking noise?
I fitted a set of G-hook rotors to my SC bells and it's had this ticking noise from day one, was hoping the bedding in would get rid of the noise but it's been a couple of months now and is still the same.

what casues the ticking with pf discs is the nuts and bolts heat and cool this casues the metal to expand and contract while the wheel spin if these are loose then will make a ticking

i have tightend mine up now no ticking but been told that i may have to re do it 4 times in the first 1k miles on the rotor

have been a major UK distributor for PFC for years and never come across that requirement at all, they should be torqued on initial install and then they are a "fit & forget"
i would suggest they need checked and the reason for the noise identified as its not normal

Now you mention it, Alyn, I seem to recall that the PF nuts are "nyloc" type (locking) nuts? So shouldn't work loose. Never had ticking on mine, as it happens.

exactly, same as most high quality manufacturers they supply "K-nut" style steel locking nuts

Thanks,possibly a different reason for mine ticking then,the noise was there from the start but has got better since bedding in.
The noise happens on mine with light braking,continues when coasting and sounds a bit like when I used to put a lollipop stick in my bicycle spokes as a young lad to sound cool doesn't sound so cool on the Scooby haha

I will take my pads out and give them and the calipers a good clean again,smear some copper grease on the pad edges and see if I can get rid of the annoying tick tick tick.
