Default 2010 hatch fuel gauge reading

Never had an issue before with fuel gauge reading until yesterday. Had just under 1/2 tank, went for a drive & on the way home noticed fuel had dropped alot. Avg mpg said 30.6, trip meter was on 240. Last time i was on that mpg got 250 & still had plenty before the light.

Yesterday once the light came on the needle went vertical in no time. Made quick stop for fuel & only managed to get 41 litres in, turned car on & reckons i only have 3/4 of a tank.

Any ideas? Is this a common issue?

Don't know if it's common, but it does sound like the float is getting stuck and giving you a duff reading.

That'll show you how to remove the pump assembly which has the float attached and just check the movement.
