Default Gearbox internals.. Interchangeability

Not having much luck with gearboxes lately lol.

What I need to know is, can I chop n change gears between two gearboxes.. Both are TY754 5 speed boxes. One is a 2002 WRX and one is a 2005 WRX box (one with the female holes for male driveshafts)

I bought the 2005 box which has been a PITA. Fitted it and was whining, traced that to transfer bearings. Bought new, fitted, no whining. But 2nd gear is fudged! Sounds like it's missing some of its teeth!

My original 2002 box ate 3rd gear, this one has knackered second gear.

I know I could strip both and go from there but I just want clarification of interchangeable gear parts between the two?

I don't want to strip them and find out its a no go, as I don't want the car disabled on the drive blocking my STI in the garage. If they are not interchangeable I will just find another gearbox and fit that.
