Default Obtaining a pac code from Orange

Am I right in thinking that they have to provide it by law if asked?

My wifes contract ends with them in 45 days as of today. She can upgrade for free as of today but wants to go with o2 instead.

She rang up orange for the pac code and they told her that she can only have it once the contract has finished and they will also charge her £20 to issue it!

Anyone else had similar issues?

I suspect a misunderstanding.

A bit confusing when you read this:

http://ask.ofcom.org.uk/help/telephone/PAC

'You must also remember that, if you are still under contract to your old company, you may still be liable for charges under that contract.'

I would have thought that would mean the remainder of the contract. Not additional charges, regardless of what the Orange website says.

All mobile companies have to provide PAC code upon request within 24 hrs. Send an email indicating that when her contract ends on "insert date" she will be requesting PAC. On the day before the contract ends phone from the mobile to Orange company and requests it. It will be sent via text free of charge.

Saying it costs £20 is to put you off from changing providers. , illegal but will stop the less mentally gifted from changing their network.

I've just gone from EE to Voda, I gave them 30 days notice (so you'll need to wait a couple of weeks) then they text over my PAC and gave me 30 days in which to provide it to another operator for them to request the change of number.

All seems to have gone ok so far (one week since transferring) Still waiting for a final settle up as I was contracted until 05/02.

It certainly didn't cost me anything to get the code and I did it all over the phone.

AS above, should provide when asked free, can charge you the time to finish your contract, but they legally have to provide pac code free
