Default rear end grating noise

have an intermittent grating noise coming from the nearside.
Not there when cold, not their when the car has been driven hard.

Noise only starts after the car has been doing some hard cornering, then it grates everytime you turn left/right (until it cools down again).

Sort of sounds like crap on the disc type sound...

Cheers in advance

Take the wheel off and have a look at the brakes.

Hi,

I had a problem with the back plate behind the brake disc.
The disc was rubbing on the back plate at the bottom while cornering.
Sounded like metal grating noise only when load was on that corner.
Take the disc off and look for scored clean metal that's obviously been rubbing on the disc. You'll find it at the lower part below the hand brake shoes. Assuming it's the same as the rear end back plate on my Blob Sti, just take a grinder to it and get shot of the bit it's rubbing on.
Hopefully that's your problem. If so, it's an easy fix.

Cheers

As above, i had the same issue, well first time round anyway! The second time it did it, it was a handbrake shoe sticking.

Two things it might be;

The disc backplate has a thinner outer ring which can rust away and scrape. They are fiddly to change and expensive to buy. The usual trick is to just remove the thinner outer ring and leave the thicker bit as partial cover for the disc.

OR

If someone has jacked the car up on the triangular bracket that locates the subframe for the rear diff at it's front mounting [ close by the jacking point ] the metal bracket gets distorted and rubs on the bush under load. Remove it bash it to shape again and refit it.
