Default Sony Alpha 65 "A65" DSLR camera

Hi All

By some miracle managed to get back from offshore in Saudi today
I had some spare Time to go buy a new camera before flying back to the UK for Xmas to film my son opening his Xmas presents.

I bought the Sony Alpha 65 "A65" DSLR Camera

Has anyone here have one or used one before
and what are your opinions on the Camera and did you like this camera

I managed to get it cheaper here than the UK
which I paid 385 quid for it
and seeing online these are selling for around the 600 mark back in the uk
one good thing about the middle east tech is a bit cheaper here

first DLSR Camera I have owned and only had it a couple of hours
and to be frank dont have a clue about any of the features
so any advice on how to use this bad boy would be great as well
especially night photos or filming would be appreciated

I have just bought my first DSLR and went with a Nikon d3200 and bought a Nikon 18-200mm lense My camera has a guide mode in it which sets the camera up for you but if you look at DSLRtips.com they may give you some help on how to use your camera?

It looks excellent, picture quality is fantastic specially if you zoom right in to crop and the guide mode on the camera set it up for most occasions. If you dial that on and pick the type of photo you need to take it sets it up ready for you to take pictures.

I have downloaded the Nikon app for my phone so that gives me a remote,

Do a search in google for viewing NEF files and it will direct you to the download link for windows as the Nikon software kept crashing. I have my camera set to take pictures in both jpeg and raw but on zooming in on my pc but I cant really see much difference in quality between the two?

I done a hell of alot if reviewing before i decided to buy it for her, it was on black friday sale so i took advantage of the camera and extra lense and accessory pack for £340. Notto shabby.

Looks like i made the right choice. Thanks for your input matey.

I'm off to New York tomorrow and still bought the camera here as I got a 2 year UK warranty. I got the deal that cam with the accessory pack it stood me £280 I then had to buy the fit and forget 18-200mm lense but looking at other options I think I would go with a Tamron 18-270mm VC lense and they can be had for about £250.

Here is a jpeg picture my daughter took of our cat with the 18-200mm lense. This was with the camera set on auto.

I swear when you zoom in on the pc I could have the picture of just his eyes and the quality is still fantastic

I used to have a Sony A200 which was a great camera especially with some of the older Minolta lenses. The Minolta 50mm is a corker (as is the 'beercan') and takes some beautiful shots in low light with stunning depth.

I have the Nikon D3200 now too with 50mm prime, 50-200mm VR and the kit VR lens. Superb value camera.

Congrats on the Sony A65, I've been shooting with mine for about a year and a half and love it, previously had ***. The best way to learn i've found out is to find a course or camera club, so you can ask relivent questions there. Also read the sony section of the camera forums
www.dpreview.com has a sony section
www.talkphotography.co.uk
www.flickr.com has sony based groups

hers's a link to my flickr albums

also get a copy of The Complete Guide To Sony's Alpha 65 And 77 Slt Cameras
( I can email you a PDF copy if you like)
