Question

Now thinking of trading the turbo in for an sti!!!!
Does the ECU need adjusting to compensate for the poorer quality fuel????

The STi 5/6 ECU runs quite a lot of advance for UK fuel. The knock sensor will detect knock and retard the timing and add fuel with some effectiveness. A remap can make it safer. The UK cars are much more willing to retard the ignition in comparison. Yes the STi has forged pistons, but the map looks like it is severely lacking.

Or get the ecu mapped for 97/98 ron fuel, like the P1 map.

Even the P1 map is identical in terms of all the ignition and fuel maps and compensation maps - it can retard maximum 11 degrees from base, the UK ECUs can retard up to 20 degrees in wider areas of the map. The only difference is the knock sensitivity is turned up but the P1 ECU is certainly not mapped for 97/98 RON from looking at the identical maps. The low and high octane maps are the same, and the same as the STi maps. Whatever, the P1 increased knock sensitivity is worth having, but still not totally safe IMHO.

I think the P1 gets round this, to a degree, by running Broquet in the tank.....
