Default Blobeye gearbox hissing in 3rd and 5th?! Help!

Hey all. I had a short shifter removed at the weekend as I bought the car with it fitted and just didn't like how hard it was to get in and out of gear with it, as the car is a daily driver.

A used shifter mechanism with brand new bushes was fitted and since then I have noticed a weird hissing sound when in 3rd or 5th. I'm by no means certain that it didn't hiss before, but I don't *think* it did. I'd only had the car a week before that though, so it's possible I might have heard it and though it was turbo noise.

Anyway, it is coming from beneath the centre console and the weird thing is that it doesn't seem to go away if the clutch is depressed, so the noise is a constant in those two gears, whether on the throttle, coasting, or with the clutch depressed.

Anybody got any ideas before this starts to really worry me?

I get something similar to what you describe in 3rd when the drivetrain is fully warmed but on the over-run. Confirmation of what it might be would be useful.
03 STi 49.5k miles.
