Ok, anti lift kits. We all know what they are, most of us (me included) are probably unaware of how they work.

As far as im aware, from what i can see the new bush/mounting just lowers the rear of the front wishbone, giving the desired effect - of which im unsure exactly how it does it, but still...


Now, my wrx is a cheap bit of fun - i didnt pay a lot for it, i work on it all myself - its cheap fun.


What is stopping people making up their own spacer plates to lower the original mount/bush??? Would this give the desired effect? I have access to lots of machining equipment so can happily make up a decent spacer plate for each side.



Am i barking up the wrong tree here? Would this be an improvement? Is it worth trialing it?


Not been around impreza's very long, but have lots of experience in other marques.

Its just looking at the whiteline kit, it is literally JUST a new rear wishbone mount that loweres the mounting point - there isnt anything else to it as far as I can see.

Ive never been one to pay silly money for things i can make myself, so this interests me....

 

It's not quite that simple as you have to consider the misalignment too.


I'm still not sure how they take into account the misalignment of the front bush too as surely that angle will change too.

 

It might be worth giving it a go. People have made castor mods by adding in a piece of aluminium, and longer bolts.
You could try it and then get it aligned at a garage to see how far it is out of specs.
The trouble might arise when the arm is going up and down which could put the alignment right out.

 

The offset bush doesn't lower the wishbone, it moves the pin out towards the side of the car, which moves the ball joint forward giving you more caster. You can gain some caster by turning the rear pin and or put a spacer between the pin and the wishbone.
