Im changing my interior in the next few weeks so I'm thinking whilst Ive got the door cards off and the carpet out, is it worth adding some more sound deadening just to make the car a little easier to live with.

Has anyone done this and got good results? Or is it pointless?

I did this in my scoob (fronts only ) and the doors now sound much better when closing

 

I had the same experience as SwissTony, had my old Hawkeyes doors Dynamatted and they gave a lovely solid shut afterwards. I would recommend it.

 

They sound almost 'golf' like though the rears rattle as hell so no change there. I did it for the audio/speaker quality TBH when I uprated my system

It's interesting to gently rattle your fingernails on the panels while moving down the car:
Rear panel: tinny.
Rear door: tinny.
Front door: solid.
Front wing, tinny as hell.....

Me, get into the car, clunk -solid door
Kids, getting into the back, clatter, rattle, twang as they trap the seat belt
Followed by Dad shouting at them

 

My kids have their own cars...it's the wife that traps the seat belts...

 

I was more thinking of doing it to (god forbid) make it a little more refined inside, basically to make it better as a road car... Do you notice anything else than a more solid feel? I know wind noise is a problem on these cars.

 

And rattles and squeaks from the dash, and tyre noise and engine noise and.....

 

Does it stop them as well?

Ah fair enough. I wasn't aiming at that much but I thought whilst I had the carpet up it might help!

Should do yes, what you using as sound deadening? If its dynamat (or similar) try putting a patch in the middle of a panel and see how much that helps, rather than doing the whole floor in one go. You may find that the small patches dampen the panel enough for what you're after.

I spend 90% of my time in the car looking for the source of rattles and or squeaks. They are from somewhere in the boot , doors or dash , so basically surround sound paininthearse.

Duh lol I meant which version, I've seen the superlight stuff and theres an extreme version too.
