As I said Chris, he's a bodyshop guy with his own bodyshop so not a lot in financial terms, but if you were paying for his time... yep a lot of coin!
He is going to give me a ball park once the job is complete, but as he says many cars may not be in as bad a state as this one so may require a lot less work.
He's owned the car since new and bought it as a surprise for his wife so it is more than just the financial worth of the vehicle to him. Plus he says he has never driven anything since that made him happier.... he is quite a tidy driver too... competed in the Rally of Britain 3 times I think (not in this Scoob before you ask) and did very well for a privateer!

Any update f1_fan? Did your mate find the car particularly difficult to weld in this area? I've just been having this done by a mobile welding guy but he complained it was the hardest car he's ever welded - blaming the seam sealer and he reckons the shell must have been galvanized. Would be good to hear if your mate agrees as I've not got total confidence in this guy.

Brillaint thread, new to the subaru world (but not to cars and working on them).
Just bought a 1999 Turbo 2000 and the sills are a mess and the rear arches have next to no bubbling but after mickywrx pointed out its the insside out which is the issue.
After taking a few pics when pulling the carpet back etc in the boot the the rear strut tops and the arch liner itself in the boot is in extremely good condition going by the pics posten previously within the thread.
I do however need to get the back bumper and wheels off and have a good poke about to check for any further rust though.
I know this is slightly off topic but still on the rust theme, ayone had any major/general rust repairs on sills?
I read on another forum a lad from Sunderland did and used R and A Autobodies at Blaydon and he spoke well fo there work. I am fixing to get mine there once i have it sorted and ready as this will be the last thing which i do before going to get a ticket on it.

Thought you might like to see the finished article back on the road with a fresh MOT and a long life ahead 
Btw I asked him about the welding, but he said the body was not galvanised and the welding was no harder or easier than any other comparable car.

Thanks for the update - looks terrific. I'm having to cut out my bodger welder's "repair" and redo. Hopefully mine will look like that before the summer is out though!

My beloved Greenwagon is going under the knife in the autumn as that's the earliest he can do it with so many projects on at the moment
2/3 body shops didn't want to tackle it but I found one I'm happy with and seen lots of examples of his work as a professional restorer including RS and a roller along with old bettles and motor home
I discussed the wing method but he thinks the metal is too thin and wants to use his tradional methods he has used for years
I'm getting 2 wheels refurbished £100
7 small dents removed by his local dent man for £70-£80
Respray front end £300
Respray bumper £100
Arches cut and replaced with metal and treated underneath
I gave him a budget if £1000 as he is used to working to budgets but I have said if more work needs doing as its cut open the budget is irrelevant as its inky to do once and I want a top job and when he was getting excited looking at my engine bay he realised I want a concourse job if the car has to be totally resprayed to match well it's do be done
Full photos and in depth written detail is of course part of the deal
That will be phase two if the Greenwagon l
Phase three will be very exciting
Worth preserving them as hey are the modern day ford RS

Well guys I am a fair way into mine now.
Got the sill covers stripped off on Sunday, passengers side sill is in surprisingly good shape no issues what so ever , however the drivers side is a nightmare!
Outer sill is well and truly gone the inner sill it on its way, luckily for me a friend of mines uncle has a lot to do with rallying subarus and has a pretty good idea on what does and doesn't need doing and has done the job a good few times.
He has offered to cut a full sill out of another car for me (imported car) so no issues and to cut the sill from mine weld in the new sill £350 all in, I then have a mate who is a painter who is going to finish it all off for me.
Does that sound a good price to you all????

Hi all,
A few of you may remember me mentioning a friend of mine who has owned a 1997 Impreza from new. This was a UK car and has had all its bodywork services (stamped in the book). He had the usual bubbling appearing on the rear arches so decided (being as he has a bodyshop) to cut the rear quarter panels out and replace them with new ones. On cutting them out this is what he found!
As he says this is a well looked after one owner vehicle with 100K on the clock and all its body services.... what are some of the others out there going to be like and also what is the point of people paying for new metal to be welded in to the outer skin if the inner one and surrounding could be like this!

respect to that fella for saving a scoob and to you too for restoring it..i bought my blob sti for 9500 in 2015..spent approx 5 grand and sold it for 9000 2 years later on 31st december 2017 simply because im expecting my first child and wanted a quick sale..completely regret it now but hopefully its still going strong...as with most scoobs (not all) spend a tonne of money that you dont get back but its the love for them
