I missed no point. We are talking about people who are 'drains on society' aren't we?

@Tony De Wonderful

I’m abroad at the moment but I’ll be back home at the weekend. I don’t know where you’re based, but here’s my proposition to you...

I will:
- send you a return rail ticket to South Wales from wherever you’re based
- collect you from the station,
- buy you a bacon butty and coffee for breakfast
- buy you lunch
- deliver you back to the station by 4pm to get you home in time.

All you need to do is to come and spend a day with me being a "drain on society”.

Any day next week 7th to 12th Oct 2013.

I guarantee after that you’ll have some idea what you’re talking about, because it’s clear that you don’t.

This is a genuine offer. Take it up. PM me.

Sam

You can accuse me of having a vested interest but I'm sure that can't be true of all those who have replied.

You are entitled to your bizarre opinion but at some point you've got to accept that the vast majority of people don't agree with you.

And I don't think they'll change their minds no matter how many times you keep repeating yourself.
Of course not many people agree. If ownership of property wasn't taken as self evidently 'real' and 'necessary' then it wouldn't be taken for granted and we would have a different form of economic system. It's like if people thought that money was worthless....it would be.

The logic is there for anyone who isn't lazy to follow though. The counterfactual of no owner, land can still provide the SAME shelter.

the way i read tony's statement was this,
lots of landlords have bought property just to rent to claimants, therfore taking advantage of the lack of social housing and charging silly rents
the point missed is that they will pay tax on said rent
and the claimant loses 20% of the benefits to vat anyway

This fuller picture is something people seem to overlook when talking about making people earn their benefits. Quite often, we are not talking about someone 'just' claiming JSA (around £70 odd a week), but housing benefit/council tax paid etc. Tot all that up, and many will be better off than someone working full time in a minimum wage job.

I'm far from heartless and anyone in genuine need/unable to work should have some support, but I don't see why we should pay for people, who can work but don't want to, to sit on their ***** and have a free ride through life.

I also don't blame this section of society for all our ills, but that doesn't mean the problem should be ignored.

For years I've not seen the reprobate Socialist Worker oiks hanging around street corners peddling their filth - it seems the only one left in the country is alive and well on here in the form of TDW.

Bet he has life size cutouts of Deggsy on his bedroom wall.

I dont understand why people who have been claiming unemployment benefit for a long period should expect not to contribute.

They dont only get job seekers allowance they also get lots of other benefits and cost money in education and health

I see no reason why the long term unemployed shouldn't help out with local projects whether cleaning the park for litter or anything else for their benefit. There's no such thing as a free breakfast. Quite frankly what else are the gonna do?

I've been working for 17 years and am lucky enough to have been employed for every single day in that period. There will come a time I am sure where I'll be given the boot from somewhere and will join the rock n roll. Would I rather sit at home doing f all or would I rather go out and actually do something? Definately the latter.

Unfortunately some (but def not all) would rather sit on their **** and do f all. They are the ones who should going out. But they'll be too busy praying that labour win the next general election

OK, so most people are moaning about the slackers who make no effort and claim what they can which is fair enough.

But just how many of these individuals/families are there compared with those who are genuinely trying?

10%? 50%?

There seems be an assumption that most people out of work are lazy good for nothings but that just isn't the case.

Yeah but it spoils the narrative if you go bringing facts and logic into the discussion

What's the point? You're going to show me how hard you work managing your properties? My issue isn't with managing it's the income from just owning! Your welcome to income from painting the odd window frame and fixing plumbing problems but it's only worth a fraction of what your tenents pay in rent.

200,000 people are long-term unemployed according to the press. No idea of the percentage though.

Not as many as you might think perhaps, but it's the population of Northampton able to work but not. Billions of pounds.

3.2 people million on Disability / PIP so I had assumed that the number unemployed would have been more than 200,000...........but I heard that figure too

David, I don't think we are assuming that all people out of work are lazy good for nothings. We all know that there will be a significant number who are trying their best but for one reason or another can't find work.

But even if they aren't lazy and it hasn't been a lifestyle choice for them why shouldn't they do something for their benefits?

I know you're a reasonable chap but why do lefties cry blood at the thought of somebody having to put something back for receiving help from the tax payer?

Of course there is a point.

The point is he is going to show you the reality of the situation that you spout of about like an expert but actually know nothing about. He does it/lives it and you just talk talk talk about it, and most of it is gibberish.

Take him up on his kind offer (if you can stop playing your video games for long enough)

The chip on your shoulder is as big as Shaid's.
He, however, has a good sense of humour which makes for some good posts.

Not my assumption at all, but the country is in a financial mess and they aren't doing much else so let's get them contributing. If it were done right it would work for nearly everyone including those doing the work... the trouble is it won't be! As a concept I can't see why people are so against it!

Yes.

As I said; you really don't know what your talking about.

My offer stands; come and spend a day with me. You'd be well placed to pass judgement once you've come and watched me draining society dry.

By the way, Tony, do you have an ISA? Or a Deposit Account?

I see the usual cyber bullies are out in force on this thread; you'd think some of them would know better, particularly considering what they do for a living.

Daryl, are you referring to me?

If that is the case I'm a little surprised tbh. I think it's reasonable to give a robust response to somebody who is accusing hundreds of thousands of people in this country of basically stealing money from other people.

That person is hardly shy in coming forward with his opinions and pushing them forward in unrelated threads is he?

It's a shame that by strongly challenging that propaganda I find myself labelled as a cyber bully
