Wouldn't disagree with that comment about tuned Astras bud we have had a few ourselves, and my buddy is currently putting a Astra VXR engine in his corsa with a gtx3070r blower strapped to it! That's going to be interesting I just don't think that the standard turbos on them are up to much, they roll off the numbers granted but they don't seem to perform the way the graphs would intend if you follow my drift, or at least in our experiences any way, we had one that was 300+ and a slightly tunned 172 had it pinned to the boards and that's no joke, was proper gob smacked, I still rather the LET engines myself, good motors they are when built right and with a good blower

Wig you actually seem like a decent bloke, punctuation aside.
I think you'll be very very lucky if this replacement engine works out to be a good un, at the end of the day if people like this were any good we'd all be using them, but guess what, we're not.
You do have other options like just buying a second hand STI bottom end off one of the traders on here that have a reputation to uphold and will sell you an engine of known quantity with history, a lot of the cars that are being broken have no problems and are just being broken by specialists for profit, you can then just bolt your heads on and away you go, complete engines go for anywhere between £800 and £1200 quite often in the breaking section, with a cambelt kit, fluids, new head gaskets you can see the car running again for another £6/800 on top dependant on what make of parts you use, i'd just fit a gates belt and Subaru MLS gaskets and not bother with Cosworth stuff to keep the costs down.
The reason we ALL say don't go the pot luck route is we've seen it all before then a few weeks later the car is being broken, but unfortunately WRX's are worth next to bugger all when being broken unless highly modified, so chances are you'll end up quite a few quid out of pocket.
So your real and only sensible choices are either bin the car NOW or do what i've suggested above anything else will just end up being more money down the toilet.
But hey it's not my money, so I don't give a ****.

Your doing well 6pages allready
But listern to the experienced guys in here
If this company had been supplying engines for £1400 fitted with a 12 months warrenty everyone on here would be talking about it and recommending it to others
Never seen a thread about them in my 13 years
Bite the bullet and go to reputable engine builder get a price and believe me the job will be done right
Infact you could get another 2 pages of posts on here
Better spend £2000 on an engine rebuild then £1400 on something no one has heard of
But hey it's your money
And hundreds are watching you now
Me I would of taken the trader to court for a dodgy car though

I can't take him to court really I haven't got a leg to stand on after remap, all thou I can't blame him for this as engine did sound nice when I purchased the car the issues that are raised in my head are . I did my research on the garrage and he had pritty good feedback and has been trading subaru for twenty years I was buying a mint wagon of him over the phone he said there's nothing wrong with car and it a good car I asked him about the back shocks nocking , common fault ,he said I've never heard of that ,this was the day before I went 170 miles to buy the car but it had 65 k miles and looked a good one , I got there the car had already been started and warmed up hmmmm, so I listen to engine I haven't had any experiance in subaru although I have had many cars and no a bit, but I'm no mechanic , car sounded a little funny just for a couple of secounds at start up it had been started earlyeir and cooled down a little then I test drove back shocks wer nocking bad ,so I thort hmm did you even have a good look at this car when you purchased it , so he said he would change shock with another shock of a car he had there great lol I was there all day sorting the finnance, so I listened to the other engines he had about 7 or 8 subarus theres one at 80 k miles I listened to that I could hear a slight noise that I now no was piston slap, I listened to a 42 k mile one then that never had that noise but the wagon took hours to warm down and again I was listening to it threw out the day slight noise that went pritty quick when warm so he said that's how they are, I thort well maybe that's what there like , drove car home. next morning sounded like a diesel, I couldn't believe it , so I took car to Keith price subaru let it cool rite down and they diagnose it with piston slap so I ring jct he says never heard of that piston-slap I thort yea alrite bet you haven't, twenty years of selling subarus, and I find out in a day of research and trip to Keith price all about subaru pistonslap and how common it can be some models more than others, any way big argument on the phone I'm telling him its piston slap and I've just took it to a top mechanic in Keith price ,and he's telling me that's how they sound by this time I'm geting a bit peed off that he's telling me there's nothing wrong with car, I said you would have to be 100 years old and stone death not to hear it in the end I said cars going back, took car back we let it cool and engine had like a rod nock noise I thort wow that was close that car must of been on the way out , I start lookin at other cars he's got to exchange I ask some questions like cambelt if it snapped would it ruin engine he says no it's non interfearence hmmm but I read and apparently it isn't on 2004 , I ask about tuning he tells me on a standered wrx if I remap gearbox will go strait away I think hmmm not what I read but hay ho , so I pick the dearest lowest mile car with the better sounding engine 42 k full history mint as it could be one tiny scratch on bumper all origanal even had the engine greese from factory all over engine rubers pipes everything all origanal mint as can be sounded and drove great so it had full history but not how I would service every 3 k but by the subaru book .so car needed cambelt so he thort so a mobile mechanic came to fit cambelt I checked threw history when I got home it recently had one I thort Christ don't he look, Jason droped me to a shoping centre while car had cambelt and service and breaks wer shot and this car had a mot with them breaks, it had a advisory for breaks but these where bad, anyhow I have car all is prity good I took it easy coz I wanted to keep it nice and see how it acted before I started tuning, so I constantly check oil and water cars doing ok for like 2 months I'm listning to engine all time lol paranoia lol couple a times I could hear a slight nock I used to let car fully warm up before driving too a while for choke to drop revs but once or twice when I blip throttle when choke was on revs would drop and there was a nock noise , I tort just a boxer engine weird things lol so I research for a mapper time to get more power as it factory strangled , so I do my research and book with what I researched one of the best jgm which I can confirm he is good at the maping so next day I go to castle combe give it a bit of welly on way up not for long opened out secound third gear hit limiter for a mater of a secound or two my bad lol , anyway got there cars ticking let it cool watched the action up combe then drove home steadily I was thinking about the ticking all day up there lol so got home and I noticed a noise a nock only slight at around 2.5 3 k revs I new it was somthing bad so I get home pop bonnet and I can hear a nock when I hold revs around 3k I tort that's had it ,and I tort that's a spun bearing so I leave it cool go back its much lowder so I made a vid sent it to jgm I research the noise told jgm my suspicions he said hopfully not spun bearing , he listned to my clip I sent and tx and confirmed its a spun bearing so I no I'm out of Warrenty so I ring jct I thort it is best to let him no another cars failed, he didn't want to no and replied best you go for a 2.5 bottom end I bet or somthing lol so I ask what oil you put in because I think this is crasy two cars in less than 3 months he says 5. 40 semi synthetic and didnt say a brand and he's servicing subaru up there for customers so I don't no if its oil bad luck or whatever I'm not blaming any one but the level of service could of been better it was not as I imagined at first me thinking this guy nose allot bout subaru so I relied on him to supply me a good car from his knowledge of buying subaru for twenty years lol and I feel prity let down from the start really trying to turn the radio up on the first test drive lol that's my trick lol if ya get me ha ha so conclusion is do I blame him not realy do I think he's just like all other car sales men , yea corse he , one day I mite meet a good one but that's it now back to private buys only ,I thort pay the extra get a good car plus any problems there's somone to turn too nah I was stupid who do I blame me , well that's my book on buying a subaru its out in the shops in November to reserve you're copy in broken English give me a hola

I've got it. It's in binary notation (all 1s and 0s). He's an android! I'll bet his world is a black background with lots of green digits, constantly scrolling. Or else it's The Matrix breaking through onto ScoobyNet...?
Incidentally, I think I know the make of oil you've been using in your Subarus. It's made by

Wig old bean, for goodness sake take the good advice all these folks are offering you and go to a proper engine builder rather than the one you're considering using. Please.

Honda were very sly by putting out the statement that millions of Vtec units have never failed under warranty, they were reffering to the variable timing unit, not the actual engine! Of which many have failed!
As for scoob engines being fragile, I totally agree, having seen off a 2ltr sti, my best mate killed 2 2ltr sti's and my old man's Rb5 motor did around 70k before letting go
I picked up a 450hp, 420lb/ft 2.1 stroker, 6spd, pretty well sorted classic for 6k not too long ago, looks alright and as its been build properly it should last a while. I took out a 380hp civic turbo with ease, it makes mince meat out of m3's and the like, kept up with an r8 and blew away a new masserati! For 6k you can't ask for much more from a car. So maybe think about selling all the cars you have and putting the money toward something like that?

Well that's 10 minutes of my life I won't get back. Is it really that hard to write a grammatically correct post? You want advice but you won't make the effort to write in proper English.
I'm out.
I'm out.

How fast were you going when you were racing your mate in the Civic?
Subaru's don't like top speed runs, that is what tends to kill these engines (aswell as poor maintenance of course)
