You were doing a reasonable job trying to encourage people not to tar people with the same brush (regardless of whether others would take your points on board) up until this post.

No problem having an opinion, but I am entitled to mine as well.

You try to defend travellers by saying they're not all the same and some pay their way/taxes which is all well and good as that is your experience. You then, in my opinion, spoil your argument by basically slating immigrants and making out like they come here and shaft the country taking our houses. Many immigrants come here and contribute to society and pay their way, just like you claim the travellers you know, do.

All I'm getting at, is, if you are going to try to get other people to be more open minded about a group of people, don't then be closed minded yourself about another.

 

I wasn't implying any didn't have the wright to a opinion I was using it as a example, the whole country's going to pot as it is anyway it has been emotional

 

I can imagine times have become harder for the scrap metal collectors recently since payments at the scrapyards are now all either by cheque or bank transfer, no cash-in-hand any longer.

My scrappy has seen a marked downturn in business since last December. He told me a few weeks back that 97% of metal theft was by "travellers", but the authorities wouldn't target them specifically for fear of being accused of prejudice.

Incidentally, please don't shoot the messenger, I'm only repeating what he told me and I've no way to verify it.

 

If your scrappy is that good at crime detection I'm amazed that he didn't become your Commissioner of Police.

He's right there though. The only people not protected by Human Rights laws etc. are er... native Brits - who happen to be hetero males that have worked hard for a living.

Anyway, back to normality.
Whatever class, group or category of people you look at there'll be great, good, bad and abhorrent ones among them.

As the saying goes though, speak as you find.
But also tell it as it is.

I've never had any problem with anyone of the gyspy fraternity (in fact the local's darts team played a bunch of them this very week) but if I had a good idea that any thieving pikey tawt had gone off with my cat I'd have no worries about reciprocating in some way.

The same as with any thieving tawt - Mongolian, Zoroastrian, paraplegic, lesbian, hermaphrodite, whatever.

Do you know why pikeys don't claim benefits or money from the government? Because that means they would then be 'on the radar' and identified / part of the system, and that's not what they want OR NEED. They make more than enough money from crime I.e scrap dealing, dodgy driveways, doorstep crime etc. Within the last 2 days, there have been 2 programmes on the TV.....one about trading standards, in which trading standards were trying to catch people doing dodgy doorstep crime. The women stated that almost all of it was pikeys.

Then there was a programme on last night, same sort of thing, again, pikeys.

We're not talking about immigrants from other country's, this is about pikeys.

That's called positive discrimination. It happens more than you think it does!

It's more that fact that he calls them travellers, yet he went to college with them (how do they even pay for this?) and one now has his own business!

No matter which way you look at it they're all involved in crime somehow, be that not paying income tax to just plain theft.

 

100% agree they don't want anyone to know who they are or where they are. Found out how they opened the bonnets so easy aswel!
