As for servicing, the and most cost effective thing to do is carry it out yourself as at the end of the day they are just nuts and bolts.
Me personally I quite like a WR1, always fancied one to be honest (would have to be pristine though) but many a Lancer AND Impreza owner have said the difference will be night and day and stick with the Lancer.
Ive owned my white 8MR now for over 6years and by heck sometimes I go out in her and think to myself.....good lord, she's quick (@1.9bar Im sure its expected)
That said I also mapped it myself and thoroughly enjoy Evo ownership even though I only drive it approx. 1.5k miles per year.
Just my opinion also is that I i really do cringe when I hear the noise of an Impreza with a full bore exhaust....the noise is not prettyif there is such a thing.

Iv read the thread on mlr there more to the evo as people on here are going to be more to the subaru...
But your asking in comparison I have a 350bhp wrx 03 blobeye
Friend has a evo 9 fq340 and mine wipes the floor with it , but a lot cheaper to tune the evo! And looks wise some blobs look nice some 9s look nice 50/50 on that

Realistically look at the big picture. Both have 4WD, both come from the factory with almost the same BHP, both are in the same road tax group, both are easily tuneable, both need a fair bit of maintenance if driven hard (trackdays etc), both.....
Do you realise where I'm going with this now?
Which one do you prefer looking at?

Surely a wrx is no match to an Evo under braking? Compare the **** poor setup on a newage wrx compared to the brembos (I'm not a big fan of the brembos) on an Evo and there's already a massive advantage under braking for a start plus the fact that the Evo will have better mid range torque unless you're running a front mount intercooler?

I think there would be very little in a straight line between a 400bhp Evo and 400bhp Impreza.
However, it would depend on how well tuned the chassis and brakes were if we're talking about how "quick" they'd both be.
Both would also need a competent driver to extract the performance from them, a fast car with an idiot behind the wheel is not necessarily fast (or safe).

You never stated that you had brembos so my mistake was easily made, but wether you have an sti top mount or not the Evo will still give more mid range torque due to front mount intercooler. On the other hand though I presume that the fq340 is standard compared to a modified Impreza? Which in itself is not a fair comparison. I've owned 2 impreza sti's one uk one jdm both blobeye cars and I now own an Evo and I wouldn't have believed the difference between the 2 as they're so similar in design and what they were built to do but I prefer the Evo myself

Man these threads, I have owned a 400BHP Evo 6 and now an STI with not much less power.
To take an Evo 6 there was a lot less money than it would be to take the STI to 400BHP. also the Evo was much much lighter and was more Raw to drive. You couldnt drive it a hundred miles without stopping for a garage ever hour and you were wrecked and had a headache.
it was slightly faster however even with AYC on the Evo the STI round croft feels a little better under braking, Could be something to do with ajustable coilovers and D2 brakes though!.
Evo was faster through gears and faster 0 - 60 but it came at a price
I had Exeddy twin plate and it chewed up 3 rear Diffs until I spent more money and went for Evo 8 diff (Stronger) then chewed up front transfer box, Was always looking to chew something on the drive chain up.. Gearbox was solid and engine great.
STI Chewed 6 speed gearbox already, just reverse though!
feels more refined to drive at normal speeds, More comfortable and i could get away with using it as a family car, Fuel tank much bigger, Running costs are about the same.
Final say, They are both great cars and very simular but in truth neither of them standard has the edge over the other.
and when it comes to modifications, then thats only money and your developing away from how the car was meant to be.
Some of the old Evo's like the Evo 6 TME and Monte Carlo will always hold money really well,
just too alike and people do not like to hear it.
Cheers all
