Just as it should be, except they weren't disqualified

Could have been a bad
omen .
If Rebecca wins the 800m tonight, we'll leapfrog S Korea into 3rd. Which will realistically be our highest placing at the end of the games... Let's see if we can indeed achieve that.
So ****ing what? Why does it matter to you or me where team jee bee come in the medal table?

Why not.
Er.... it's something to 'aim' for. A bit of national pride.
Not everyone is a 'Games hating' killjoy.

We want our team to win. So the higher up the table the better.

It's extremely parochial and jingoistic.
I enjoyed the skill and drama of the gymnastics but reducing it down to nationalism is nauseating.

The (good
) countries are all the same as regards the jingoistic aspect.
So nothing to be 'gained' by being frightfully British about it and pretending we're not bothered...
Plus, the medals table is based on each country's collective achievement, so it's totally relevant (otherwise a medals table wouldn't exist). Simples.
Sport is, ultimately, about winning - and the associated bragging rights. Otherwise topflight sport is pretty pointless...

It's pathetic. What have the achievements of some national lottery funded athletes got to do with me or you just because we have the same passport?
'lympics was better when it was armature, now we're just cheering on rich corporate reps. Not much romance there for me, maybe a bit of distraction, but the jingoism is nauseating and the media backslapping which goes with it.

I see where you're coming from. But, rightly or wrongly, it is what it is.
So may as well just go with the flow (resistance is futile)...

It's a competition and it's a competition that I'm thoroughly enjoying. Now kindly stop sullying my thread.
The French have taken our fourth spot.
