now given your obvious claim to be extreamly highly educated in the laws of engliash and ethics, i would expect you have borrowed a book or magazine from someone (perhaps 'Country life monthly' or 'English weekly'). Or maybe even perhaps borrowed a DVD from someone? (in your case probably 'Entertainment for the advanced educated')

O hang on, thats exactly the same thing, you havn't paid for it so therefore your a pirate for reading or watching it.

Which would be completely legal (as long as the book is in its original binding) ... read the legal statement inside any book or magazine.

Tidgy, I know it's horrible when someone makes you look like a prize ****, but you really need to not take it so hard.

Consider it an education, you've learnt something about the legalities of book publishing and how to spell "you're".

That's a pretty god morning and probably as much as you can handle in one go.

Tomorrow we might try a talk about morality and honesty, but see how you feel after today's 'marathon session'

But the studios are not willing to compete with piracy on the internet and why would they want to, they are making record profits year after year, they don't want to change that business model, even though they could.

The Avengers from this year is the second biggest money making film of all time, the new Batman film will top the lot of them before the year is out and this is with Hollywood cooking the books.

Where is this massive piracy problem you always refer to? It isn't the music.TV and film studios and good software companies are still growing and expanding, excusing Microsoft this year due to a dodgy investment.

We've had this discussion before and we will never ever agree on anything about it, but one question. You always always bang on about the 'nasty music and movie companies'. What about the smaller companies and one man bands?

For instance I can tell you for a fact that the entire adult industry outside one or two of the big players is on its **** because of piracy! Go and read the trade sites if you dont believe me.

Also the big companies will tell you they could charge less for their product if not so much piracy went on, the pirates say there wouldn't be as much piracy if the product was cheaper.... the truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but surely you don't really think it is helping?

They make a lot through the cinema - been to see a film recently? It's nigh on £20 to get through the door. Initially, the majority of the money goes to the film distributors etc and the longer it is on the higher the percentage that actually goes to the cinema showing it (at first the cinema might only see 10% of the price back).

But this is for the big budget stuff. Great, get some marketing in there but for the smaller one or those at the bottom end it is a real battle. It's why you don't have small independent cinemas etc anymore. All you get is hugely over priced popcorn at a national multiplex to off set the price of the films which are going ever skywards.

Piracy is definitely a problem, not sure how it could be seen otherwise.

5t.

When hollywood starts bringing out films that DONT disappoint, then it worth paying for.

I openly admit to "evaluating" a movie, if its good, i will buy it. Youd only have to look at my Bluray and DVD collection to see that I do support the industry, but only with a film worth watching.

How many movies have you gone to the cinema, coughed up a tenner PER ticket to be sorely disappointed?. Several times Im sure and if not, why not - you're moaning about pirates yet dont support the movie industry....

If a film is good, I'll buy it. The picture quality is better, sound is better, i have a nice case, something physical to hold in my hand (I hate online movies) but I will watch a copy first.

Im just doing the same that ANYONE would do purchasing almost ANY product. You want to touch it, see it, make sure it is a quality product (in this case, a pirated movie, even a RIP will not be as good-a-quality as the original.

Would you just go buy a car without test driving it?
Would you go buy a house without going inside, looking around?
Would you go marry a lady without testing the wares ?

No. Argument over.

So you don't like software thieves & in another thread you object to cash in hand work ... presumably you're whiter than white, never set a foot wrong in your life?

Well I don't know about that, but I think if everyone paid their way and stayed above the law we'd all be paying less tax and less for our movies anyway.

As Telboy said in the other thread every time someone evades paying tax the rest of us have to pay for it.

Doesn't seem very fair to me.

Quite honestly the fact you can get the p1ss taken out of you and called a liar and a **** for not supporting illegal activities and for being able to read and write properly says everything about the way Scoobynet and society in general is going.
