The 2012-2013 Man Utd Thread
Not moral high ground, just the 'better than everyone else' attitude that manure supporters seem to adopt. Am I right in thinking that you are a Londoner? Surely there are enough teams down there you could have followed as a lad, or did you start supporting Manure post 91?
Goals or no goals, Ronaldo dragged 3 or 4 players round the pitch. Thats what I said, because thats what he did.
As for me knowing better than Mourinho, '50:50' is a turn of phrase, its not a statistical fact and no-one uses it as such. You cant refute the 61:39 ratio can you? No matter what Fergie or Mourinho say, and those comments were used because they don't go down the cheap wind up offensive against each other, just the rest of the world.

LOL An argument needs two sides - your points are so weak that you dont really qualify. Why don't you answer the question - do you know better than Mourinho?
Jose and Fergie (the big Rangers fan...) thought that overall 50:50 was a fair description, despite it being an way game for MUFC, but you clearly know more than both of these managers - and the majority of the papers/ commentators. As a result, I'm just curious where your massive font of unique knowledge and vision comes from - other than from the Daily Mail that is. Perhaps watching PAFC has given given you unique insights into quality football - can't think why you keep flogging a dead horse otherwise.
Ronnie's touches versus Rooney's are meaningless for the reasons you have already had pointed out to you - they were playing different roles.
Ronaldo drawing up to 4 players all over the pitch in the second half ? That would obviously allow RM to score loads of goals then. Hmm, better get my calculator out to add up all those second half goals they scored. Let's see; I make that none.
" Being ridden like a cheap manc boiler " ... and you are trying to take the moral high ground re the PAFC comment pmsl

My original point was that Ronaldo was going to ride united like a cheap manc boiler. He was hardly shackled was he? His second half performance was not all about the thrusting, goal scoring role he is used to .It was all about him drawing players about the pitch which he did, which actually reduced Uniteds ball time to 35%.
Nothing weak about that, is there?

I can just imagine you'll be incandescent with rage should Utd qualify
Average game from Ronaldo bar the goal, well marshalled by Jones most of the evening.
United's stand out players were De Gea, Jones, Welbeck, Carrick, Rio and Evans in that order for me.
A cracking game to watch (unless you're Myles
) and cant wait for the second leg.

Its the likes of fat boy that have indelibly marked Utd supporters as the most smug, hypocritical and 'rose-tinted' supporters in England. Why bring the fact i'm a Plymouth supporter into the conversation at all, it has no bearing on my ability to analyse a match. If anything, as my team is so far detached from all this that I am in a better position to comment on such things.

Yeah detached but the standard "you" are watching is not the highest and usually route one when all else fails as it does in Div 2. You could analyse a Div 2 game in one sentence, compared to a Premier league match, believe me I have seen enough Barnet matches to know this
I'll be setting my standards even lower from now on visiting my local Conference South side
The smugness will always be there whilst the ABU's exist, especially those fans that put up with that sort of crap day in day out. Liverpool fans got it from 78-89 when I was at school and it's been the United fans turn since 1990, water off a ducks back for most of us.

I am allowed to watch premier league football in my house, as well as getting to a fair few NUFC games (just due to proximity more than anything else). Although I don't often see it, I can appreciate a game at a higher level than L2.
I could be enjoying Conference football next year too, if we can't keep up the last few games form.

I do live in London now, primarily for work reasons, but I'm not from London originally. In any case where I am from has got zip to do with you or your failed point.
I've always found the "we support our local team" whinge a trite excuse trotted out by followers of third rate teams who struggle to even attract their local fans, never mind the local fans plus those from across the country and elsewhere. By the way, are you supporting NUFC or PAFC ? Not sure which is your local team...
FWIW I have followed United since 1968 when, as a small boy, I was allowed by my dad to stay up and watch the first European cup win. So you could say I am a glory hunter, but at least I have been for over 45 years... I have followed them through many years in the wilderness /second division before the excesses of the recent years, including over 18 years as a season ticket holder before kids/life took over so do **** off, there's a good boy.
Possession stats also mean **** all - Arsenal can have loads of possession and play pretty triangles all they want, but if they do nothing with it then so what.... It's 1:1 so far, not 61:39.
As for being arrogant, get over yourself lecturing me about my attitude. If you re read my posts they are full of "another nail biter next time" and criticism of my team when they do badly/ compliments to other teams who played well. As far as I'm concerned, it's half time, we have a small advantage from being at home versus their poor away record against more mediocre Spanish teams and it should be another enthralling game, so it's all to play for. Hardly arrogant or smug. Your blinkered inverted snobbery is misplaced.
I told myself that I wasn't going to respond to any more of your posts and I failed - for that I'm sorry - but I won't be responding to you again so fill your boots.
"Why bring the fact that I am a Plymouth supporter in to it.."? Why be an ABU? You are far from "detached".

On the subject of statistics - one thing I never understood about the “shots on target” stat are why something that hits the post (especially the inside) doesn’t count yet a shot going half a foot wide that the keeper decides to save is a shot on target? Unless there is by now a Dubious Shots on Target Panel
How ironic you mention fail, because the post at the top is the original post.
We are just one of those teams,
That you see now and then;
We often score six,
But we seldom score ten,
We beat 'em at home,
And we beat 'em away,
We kill any b*stards,
That get in our way....
We are the pride of all Europe,
The **** of the North,
We hate the Scousers,
The Cockneys of course (and Leeds!);
We are United,
Without any doubt,
We are the Manchester boys, nah, nah, nah.....
That is all!

I was lost at Stiller and Ford
What I do know is we're 15 pts clear
, an easy 2-0
, Lovely finish from Giggsy
, looking as sprightly as ever in his 999th competitive match unlike Gerrard who is losing yards faster than Carragher and he's only 32

giggs has been used sparingly over the past few years whereas gerrard has been hamered his whole career! Same as michael owen burnt out by liverpool aswell . Giggs is imense and fit as a fiddle still
Giggs does a lot of yoga now, and it is paying dividends (literally). Imagine all the extra cash he is banking from still playing top flight football, I would guess now that most forward thinking clubs will bring in yoga instructors for the veterans.
From what I've heard, a lot of the other players within United are also into yoga after seeing what it has done for Giggs. I agree with Myles though, I'd be surprised if other clubs don't look into this too.
Michael Owen popped his knee out playing for england and was never the same since
