Sometimes I do feel a bit overwhelmed by you older bunch and slightly harder for me to fit in
It's funny because I came onto these forums with the intention of purchasing a Subaru STI at the beginning of 2012, knowning literally nothing about them ...however my circumstances changed mainly because at my age, paying roughly £2400 in insurance and tax per year on a car is outrageous, so I decided to get something a little cheaper instead.
Despite having no intention to buy a Subaru anytime soon, I do feel a tiny bit attached to this forum and I find myself checking the 'Non Scooby Related' section daily and reading most threads. I find the people on here interesting and most of you are a good bunch.

I am a member on a few other forums, for example, one being Vauxhall VXR Online, and I cannot stand the amount of young people (chavs) on the forums. Despite it having probably 10 times the amount of members as Scoobynet, the number of new threads created is minimal compared to Scoobynet. Half the bloody people on there can't even write a thread using correct spelling and grammar!
I always find myself returning to Scoobynet due to the amount of threads being created and some of the people on here are half decent and interesting

I detest text speak and I am sure it is banned from SN anyway. Enjoy the board and nice meeting you.
There are lots of youngsters here as well as us "oldies" and we all get on fine, usually Like I said, age is just a number and of no relevance. I get on with folks from any age, child to pensioner. We are all just people, enjoying life.

The majority of us don't plan on buying a Subaru. I never bothered buying one and I was your age when I joined the forum. It was a car for IT geeks back then. Now... well, I wouldn't want to.

A lot of us "oldies" are the original members here on scoobynet from 1999 and had scoobs in their heyday which has unfortunately long since gone. SN is very quiet these days compared to even a few years ago and is not nearly as interesting as it was.

the forum is what you make it, i have the webpage open at work and like to read new threads, im a bit of a wind up merchant but nothing to offensive.
it does seem to have gone quiet of late, but i think the subaru brand is dying in the uk, my scooby is a second car and lives most of its time in the garage but i wouldnt part with it especially given what they fetch second hand now, also it would break my heart if i sold it and a few weeks later a thread appeared.

Its amazing how the marque has changed. From a IT geek's car, to a WRC fan boy's car, to a semi-literate chav car and finally to....erm, I'm not sure what to label call the current crop of hatch buyers? Middle-aged-man motors?
Seeing most current shape scoobs I've seen have been purchased by owners of earlier models - so its mainly former IT geeks and rally fan boys reliving the past
The new cars aren't attracting new blood, and this has to have a trickle down effect on forums. A current shape WRX/STi is a rare sight round here, yet the area is full of chavved-up blue blobs eyes.I'm glad we have NSR and OM sections; its been a refuge of sorts from how the marque and its owners change.

As long as you don't use text speak, and can string a coherent sentence together, and aren't aggressive towards people, you'll be fine. Just join in with the banter.

Some ex-impreza owners on here sound like Holocaust deniers ffs.
I still want one although I'm not sure if I will ever own one. I always said I'd never buy one until I could afford to own and run a classic STi. Lately I've been looking at old UK2000's but their performance just doesn't stack up in comparison to what you pay in insurance for the privilege. Also, I like OEM standard looking cars, so not only would I need to buy a classic, I'd need to buy all the parts Barry threw away and rip off all the bits he glued onto it. Not worth the hassle.
I'm quite bitten by the Alfa bug, I still love mine even with its weedy engine but Northern Ireland has a **** poor selection of Alfas for sale at any given time....might just have to buy an Audi A4 TDI or 306D-Turbo.

Bought a bargain 99 wagon for £1400 and with £500 spent had her upto 284/317
A quick family car with a big boot My insurance at 27 is well under £700 too.

Just trying to get a quote is hard enough when you mention Impreza, my last quote for a UK2000 was £1500 which isn't going to happen i'm afraid.I appreciate your example COB but power is only one aspect. The way I see it, if i go out and buy a UK2000 at £2000 say, I'll be spending about another 1000/1500 to make it stop, handle and go as it should. Then once you add in insurance/petrol it starts to seem very pricey for an old car that will mostly likely be problematic due to its age and will struggle to hold its own against a modern more economical hothatch.

My first scoob was £9K (1994 JDM WRX) second one was £13K for a 3yr old MY97 (£18K new).
