We have no mains supply and all our water comes from a well. When we had the water analysed they said it was pure with no bacteria or chemicals and was considerably better than mains water. It is so good that visitors used to take 5 gallon containers home to make their tea with.
We would not dream of converting to a mains supply. It is good to have water with no chemicals in it.
Hasn't bothered us as far as health is concerned over the last 20 years!

Would look good, 1 of our old customers has a working water wheel under their office witha glass walk cover on. Freaked me out and I chose to walk round.
What you need is:
1" thick glass
1 Pressure pad
sound recording of cracking glass
1 loud speaker.
Then wire it all up and wait for your first unsuspecting victim!

Just a quick progress update! The extension has all been done and kitchen finally fitted; just waiting on the floor, kitchen work top, and glass well lid which should be done next week
The lights were fully installed this morning and I think they look fantastic. Once again, iphone pictures do not do it justice!
If you compare to the first pictures, notice that the thick lead pipe and wooden sleepers have all been removed. This involved a crazy man going down there with an angle grinder and a chainsaw!!

You'd want someone to first demonstrate how tough that glass is - by, say, dropping an anvil on it!

A characteristic feature of the project is that a volume that was originally intended for a second elevator and was never installed becomes a powder room with a glass floor that looks down all the 15 levels, the PPDG penthouse is a great versatile modulated space, with great views all this with the concepts of transparency and the simplicity of materials.

the well looks much better now by the way - that's going to make a superb feature if you get the lighting right
but I wouldnt fancy changing a bulb

The lights are marine fully stainless waterproof LEDs, and we worked out that they should last roughly 18 years if we turn them off at night
If you look, we have 1 at the top, 1 half way down, and another near the bottom. You wouldn't believe the price of these lights as they were a ridiculous amout!
You can't really tell from the picture, but there is enough room for a 4th one at the very bottom but we didn't fancy that incase the water level rises! 
We think that they must have dug down into a stream or something because the water looks as if it is free-flowing, and it bubbles away and there's general water movement down there.

It would be worth getting the water analysed. We have a well as our only water supply. We had it analysed and the result was that it was considerably better than mains water and we have been using it for over 20 years now without any problem.
No bacteria,mineral pollution or any added chemicals make it healthier to use and it tastes better than any mains water. People visit us with 5 gallon containers to take it home with them!
