Thanks for the update!

Unfortunately mine are already pointing into the ground. I wonder if a garage would simply manually adjust them or insist on the issue be fixed since they're automatically supposed to re-align depending on the weight.

Had the same problem on my 06 Spec D recently. Sourced from Scooby Spares another sensor and a bit of wring to the plug, as the central pin had completely corroded away, and the end of the plug was cracked and letting water in.

Bit of time to swap the sensors from the brackets as the mount holes didn't line up. Otherwise a straight forward job. Cut and solder in the new wires and plug, insulate it properly this time and then refit. Quick initialisation cycle and jobs good.

So after replacing my rear sensor the light has come back on this summer, the front looks good so I am wondering whether its the auto levelling ECU part number 84967FE001.

Does anyone know where this is located?

Hmm looks like its behind the glovebox, which now makes me think it must be the front sensor.

The only other thing I was think is the these lights must have motors in them to adjust the lights, could one or all them be burnt out damaged etc?

I did this and it worked. thank you so much for putting it on here!

Just over a a month ago, a week to the day before the MOT the warning light came up. The headlights did not change position though (or I don't think they did).
Next day the light was off. I have had the car for nearly 9 years (05 totally stock non turbo Impreza wagon) and the light had never been on before.
So not wanting to take any chances I whipped out the glove box (why use 4 screws to fix it in when 54 will do the job just as well !) and disconnected the little control unit in there. There is only the one plug with about 8 wires going to it. The control unit is well to the left behind the glove box.
The car passed the MOT as it always does and I have no intention of connecting this thing again.
Reading this thread saved me £££'s Thank you !

Whoa, this thread has put the wind up, it's working fine on our car at the moment, but I think I'll waterproof the connections as a preventative measure

Default levelling issue

Hi All,

I am now having this problem, but only on the left hand headlight.
Start car, left headlight comes up to normal height, about 10 seconds later, it lowers itself down to its lowest setting.
The right hand headlight doesn't move at all.
I have so far raised the left headlight manually as a bodge so i can use the car at night, but i have noticed that the left hand light occasionally develops a mind of its own and raises itself way high, then brings itself back down again.
Have i got multiple issues? or are there seperate sensors for left and right sides?
Also, how do i diagnose if the front or rear sensors are at fault?

This is doing my head in
