You would assume if you can browse the web you could also access web based email such as hotmail too?
I think they are pretty much a bad idea though as if rim stop supporting it then it's game over, also I doubt many apps will be appearing.
Better off getting some sort of android tablet
What you can't use it via wifi for web browsing? So it has to be tethered to a Blackberry mobile to do anything?
If that is the case then they are pretty much useless.
The playbook has wifi and you can tether it to a blackberry for 3G or any other device via bluetooth. Once tethered to your blackberry, you can view your emails as you would via the blackberry, it acts as a "window" to your blackberry mobile.
The playbook is a very good device and technically it's on a par and in certain cases better than the iPad or Android tab. It's just that RIM are crap at the marketing and does not have the multitude of apps like the other platforms, AppWorld is crap. It was a rush job (no 3G) and wasn't aimed at it's biggest and most secure market, the corporate market.
Can't argue with £200 for a brand new dual core honeycomb tablet, especially one that plays flash! iPad is good, but not *that* good. Great marketing by Apple though.
I'm sure you have said that exact same comment on a recent thread.
Not that I remember but it was meant as a joke in any case, clearly a £200 tablet is not designed to compete with a iPad or galaxy tab, I'm sure it's very capable though
ps. Just to note you can set plugin to "on demand" in the Android browser so you don't get those lovely adverts whilst still being able to view Flash content in the browser, no need for silly little apps that take you away from your browsing, like the link above.

The Xoom when first released at the start of the year was actually around £400-500 and was the first honeycomb tablet. It could perhaps compete with the first iPad but it's not far behind the iPad 2. For £200 it is a bargain though. The Xoom2 has recently been released and is better, but it's not a patch on the forth coming Asus Transformer Prime.
On spec it may be able to compete but as no one writes software for Android tablets you'll have an expensive, unsupported web browser. Saying that, £200 is a bargain.
you can browse the web but for email it's a no no, thats what i found when i was having a go with the only muppet that bought one snazy's
I bought a playbook for myself when they dropped to £169, its pretty good for what i want it for. There is no problem getting email on it without a blackberry and it has exceptional battery life and BBC iplayer added. It even scrolls better than say my galaxy s11. There is a limited supply of apps for it if thats your thing but I'm not bothered about them.
I was going to root it and put the android market on but i have just decided to wait until the new OS is out in february which comes with android as standard.
I only bought it for browsing the web and its great for that when you consider what crap is out there for a similar price. I am waiting for an HTC flyer to arrive which hopefully should be good as its the 3g one.
Bargains can be had at the minute for most tablets at the moment just make sure it has 1gig memory as standard as the knock off all seem to come with 512kb and they are the ones people complain about being slow.
I'm sure the ipad2 is the better option but for the first foray into a tablet device at £200 I thought it was a great deal. Should be able to update to the latest OS in the future as well apparently.
You will probably have to root it but it should be possible
