Was 600 then 450 now 400, says it all really!!!

If it's non PPG there's that much abiguity as to whos running what kit and at what power.

Stick with what you know will DEFINITELY work not with what MAYBE will.

I really cannot put it any plainer than that!!!

i wouldn't go ppg now, the one that is rated to 600bhp it is way too expensive.

I;d look at one of clinic gearsets, turban tested lol

I'd just fit it and worry about it if you need to WR1 box should be fine, I'd me more concerned about a bugeye box but saying that the bug box in my classic is fine You might find more things that need fixing in which case you could have bought a better box in the first place

I hear what your sayin... I've been doing the sums and with the WR1 box plus stripping and refurbing it does seem like I could just go for a better box...

Hmm...

Options are:

> WR1 box 128k £1350
> 2002 UK box 38k £1700
> 2002 JDM non DCCD box 30k (+R180) £1800... will I be able to marry this box up with a 3.54 R160? As I could knock off the R180 and maybe do a deal for £1500. Ok not a great 5th & 6th, but other than that it looks like the front runner?

I cant budget in for the syncro refurb at £6-800... I'd just have to take my chances on it being a solid reliable box... 130k is alot of mileage

All JDM six speeds will require a 3.9 rear diff.
You can get both R160 and R180 3.9 diffs but they are alot harder to come by and thus more money.

I wouldnt bother getting a DCCD you'll be prefectly fine without it.
Just get a non dccd UK six speed and a UK R160 it really is the easiest way to do it.

You do speak sense... I got a bit side tracked with the WR1 box.

Ok back to the plan - but I'd still like to do a bit better than £1700 if thats possible

There's no reason why you can't. However people seem to have become very greedy regarding six speed prices these days.

I think a realistic budget for box, prop, linkage and diff is circa £2k you could probably get change out of that if you find the right deal.

Typical I saw this and then once it got sold my box went... a;ways the way.

I know I wont be as lucky to find a deal like this anytime soon, but I guess the other box I've been offered for £1700 delivered is still a good deal.

Speaking of greed, if you look on eBay the prices on there are pretty much all £2k+ altho I guess its all traders so they have their mark up on it which is fair enuf

Nobody is paying that though. Those boxes have been sat on ebay for ages. The boxes on here seem to start at £2k, but drift down to about £1600 before they sell.

Saying that a guy on Ebay (trader) has done me a deal for £1550 on a 2002 UK box, plus paypal charges & delivery it works out at £1700 which is really good and it was the front runner for my buy...

..I may have just found a 2002 UK box for £1300 this morning tho so just checking up on it

While I'm at it, if I can get a bargin on a twin plate clutch I'll be taking advantage...

I've found this on eBay and the guy is selling it coz the flywheel has a missing tooth.

4give me if I'm wrong but this wont make any difference as those teeth are only there for the starter to bite in to. A missing tooth wouldnt be an issue... would it??

Actually I've just looked at the pic and seen the damaged teeth... hmm... what do ppl think?

Thanks Archie, I'd be very interested to see it when its off the car

I've got a 6 speed... just working out the logistics and final bits and bobs but looks like the major part is sourced and secured

I've also got an R160 3.54 diff waiting in the wings so once I've finalised on the box I'll complete on the deal on the rear diff.

Its all coming 2gether... the twin plate would be the icing on the cake

Rebuilt JDM box here, replaced the open diff with an ap suretrak centre and all the crappy synchros have been replaced with the later type. Also installed carbon baulk rings. Box/prop/selector/speedo sensor/cradle £1700 or add an r180 3.9 rear diff for £250.

That sounds like a really good deal for someone!
If I was going JDM then would have liked this set up esp with all the new syncro's etc... cracking!

Rob - if you have the details for the pallet delivery place that may come in handy

yup RA rear diff is 4.44 - you'll need 3.9 rear diff with any JDM 6 speed box.

When I put an 04 Spec C 6 speed box in my p1 I swapped the original P1 4.44 R160 rear diff out for an R180 3.9 plated rear diff and whole back end which had the added advantage of brembo 2 pot rears as well.
