What I did :
Easyjet from Luton to Amsterdam - £69 ish.
Train from Amsterdam to Rotterdam - £10 ish.
Got a free lift to Zuid Beijerland.
Drove to Calais.
Eurotunnel to Folkestone - £125 single <gasp>.
About 300 miles total from Gertjans to home - full tank of petrol gone.

For the northerners out there, I was on Business in Frankfurt and it turned out that it was cheaper to fly back to Amsterdam than Leeds, so saved company money and did that. Then stayed in Ibis hotel Schiphol (just next to airport, free shuttle bus) for around 50 quid. Got train in morning from Shiphol to Rotterdam Central Station (CS) for 19 NLG - about 5 quid. Gertjan will arrange for someone to pick you up and take you to his garage.

Ferry back from Rotterdam Europoort (about 25 miles from Gertjan) to Hull costs 104 single including a cabin. 14 hour crossing!!

Paperwork is simple. Got my V5 this morning and it just says "new at first registration", no mention of import.

 

Kevin. How did you make you final payment. Did he accept a bank cheque or did you transfer money before you collected.

 

I transferred the money (using Citibank) about a week before collection to make sure it arrived in time (£20 fee).

What did you do about insurance for the trip back because you must have had trade plates on the car. Did the insurance company give you uphill.

 

Lee, many insurers will cover you on the chassis no. You normally have to pay a feww quid for the green card fully comp bit.

I first did it this way, then got the car registered here first, and took the UK plates with me. It saved me the cost of transits but I did have to pay for Alliance to do it. There's nothing to stop you doing it yourself- just need the correct forms. The DVLA seem pretty quick about it all.

BTW Bernie, am making good progress with IM re the 3 year warranty. Sent mr Swatman a copy of my servicebook (with 3 yr bit). Ed says this is news to him (his info was incorrect) and he is looking to resolve it ASAP. I live in hope!

 

The UK Sonic blue or 555 blue cannot be ordered in Holland, I think....

because I ordered my car this monday and the colour 'new 555 blue mica' (see

 

My car from Holland was ordered with code BM4F. But, the paint code from under the bonnet is 74F - same as Sonic blue. So try not to get confused with descriptions. It *is* the same.

Regarding insurance cover for the journey back to the UK. Most companies I phoned would not issue a Green card on chassis number alone. Except Bell Direct whose policy includes 3 months green card cover automatically.

What papers do you need to register the car here before collecting it from the EU? Will the dealer part with information beforehand? It sounds like a good idea to get UK plates before collecting the car, the the insurance company don't know its an import.
