I haven't had the calipers sent to me yet to confirm if the pistons are actually smaller , it would work out great if the 'normal' classic one piston calipers did fit , that way you could fit the vented type one pot calipers on with the 290mm vented type R discs which are a lot easier to get hold of

er yeah I had an idea the handbrake would be bigger lol , all the versions of type R's have a 190mm handbrake , the version 1.2 & 3 had 290mm solid discs and one pot calipers , the version 4 & 5 had 290mm vented discs and 2 pot calipers , the backplates where the calipers bolt on are different for the 2 types , but the disc size and handbrake size is the same , so if the one pot calipers on your car , are the same calipers as the early WRX , then in theory you can fit the later vented 1 pot calipers and the later type R vented discs

its either the sliders are seized , or the pistons , if its the sliders you can take them out , clean it all up and regrease and refit , should sort them out

I have a v3 type r, what i did was change the discs to 290mm vented and then change the calipers to single pot vented.Onlt thing else i had to do was knock the back plate back so the discs wouldnt rub. They have been on for 2 years now.

from what ice643 says , the later classic WRX calipers will fit with the 290mm vented Type R rear discs , we have these in stock , calipers can be had for peanuts , £30 a pair
Put a wanted thread on here and you will get loads of replies , a lot of people take these off to fit the 2 pots with the fitting kit I make

Since this is getting discussed I'll ask in here

I've got a V3 type R and I've bought newage 2 pot calipers for the back from aa WRX I think, the only problem is I cant get them to fit ?

I bought a backing plate from someone off here but it doesnt fit, can anyone help me find the bracket that will ?

Hi
What backplate do you have ? if you try and fit the 2001 onwards WRX one , it won't fit , you need the later type R , or a 2001 onwards STi backplate to fit the calipers straight on
Cheers Ian

No idea what bracket I've got, bought it from mattybr5

So with a later type R or a newage STI back plate the newage WRX 2 pots would fit on my V3 ?

I'm back to square one again

Do you know if these can be bought directly from Subaru as this is getting ridiculous now ?

Already got discs sorted, bought them from you months ago and there just sat in my garage

I've been told from the person that supplied me the backing plate that the only way to do it is to change the hubs as the V3 type R is completely different ?

Can anyone confirm for me if this is true as i'm having an absolute nightmare with this, I've already bought the discs for it aswell, I'll need to sell them on if I cant find a way

all the type R's are different to the 'normal' classic as they have a larger diff , shafts hubs ect , I think the person you are speaking to must think your axle is different to the version 4 & 5 type R
