£45k, 11 plate Audi TTRS S-Tronic, 3yrs warranty, 33mpg, £240 tax. 0-60 in 3.6 and 100 in 9.3. With a map, 60 in low 3's and 100 in sub 8secs. Good residuals, the interior is lovely, well equipped, economical, cheap to tune, very quick, GTR pace and best VFM new car on the market in my opinion.
The only thing you need to put up with is the hairdresser image, but then again you have been mentioning the Porsche Boxster so im sure you can see past that
http://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/used...cmdc=se_na_re_
You'll get that for £45k easy.

TT-RS 0-60 in 3.6sec and 0-100 in 9.3 out of the box? Surely not, more like 60mph in 4.4sec, 100mph in 11.1.....how do these portable salons respond to tuning then?
Happy to be proven wrong, Santa Pod at dawn?

Audi quote..
0-100km/h in 4.3secs for S-Tronic (60 in 4.0secs)
0-100km/h in 4.6secs for manual (60 in 4.3secs)
Car and driver over in the US have managed a 3.6/9.3
Autobild have managed 3.6/9.3
Evo have just recently tested and managed a 3.9/9.7
http://www.fastestlaps.com/cars/audi_tt-rs_coupe.html
And then here is a tuned manual boxed TTRS managing 3.25 to 60 a couple of weeks back at GTI event Bruntingthorpe..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35cmHyY2WkI
That is a manual car with no launch control or instant shift. An S-Tronic box is going to be quicker than that. The driver actually did go quicker than that at 3.22 but it wasn't captured on video.

No, nothing that I could point you too, but I know the terminal on that 11.66 was 122mph which is non too shabby for a little hairdressers car.
They're only 1450kg which helps them out a lot, upto around 150-160mph they are really quick and then obviously the bigger bhp cars will start eeking away from them.
I swapped my manual RS in for a DSG RS a couple of weeks back, just need to get the thing tuned and then ill be running up the strip too. My best 30-130 is 12.06 secs though in the manual with 3 shifts which is very quick. I believe the standard GTR's that were running at the last Marham event were in the 12-13sec bracket so they are very potent cars.
As you say under the radar, most people just think of the hairdresser image.
Still though, map and tune the GTR and then you're back at square 1, it's not going to be as quick standard vs standard or tuned vs tuned but never the less, for the price they are pretty hard to beat

The RS3 and 1M are also other contenders.
I'm not sure about the RS3 personally, 5 doors and the model is at the end of its life but still it has the same 5 pot engine as the TTRS and DSG and is priced around the £40k mark. More practical if you have a family.
The 1M has been getting great reviews and looks plenty quick too.
Just found a review of the RS3...

Top gear so UK based...3.8 to 60 and 9.9 to the ton.

Sorry Leon, just not a fan of the TT or indeed Audi in general.
As for the hairdresser comments.... only comes from those that know jack $hit about a particular car!
Besides, I really couldn't give a flying **** what others think - what matters is what I'll be happy with for 2-3 years...
Carry on.

Well it has to be the 1M then
I cant believe they gave you a residual of £12k after 3yrs, should be more like £22k. I'd go and see another dealer, or go for the 135i.
I personally wouldn't buy a car outwith its warranty, keep it new (More likely to be better equipped, refined and cheaper to run and of course the warranty aspect)
If you must buy an older car sub £40k, then you cant go far wrong with a 996 Turbo S(x50)

TTRS is quite but remember, the GTRs is designed for going around corners and a track quickly... not just a straight line.
GTR also seems easy and relatively cheap to tune, with good results.
Zip - what kind of driving do you prefer? On the track drifting a$$ out not the fastest but fun or do you prefer trying to better your last best lap?
What will the usage be more road or more track?

Alloy -
Leo - done the X50.
Graham - it will be used way more on the road than track and only then to just be able to better my last lines and make smooth progressive progress.
It would also be nice to let the wife use it now and again - she was a bit miffed when I got the Exige cos she couldn't see out of it
Anyway, ins co just called - still struggling with a value for the Exige -

Zip, I reckon you'll do full circle and either end up stretching your budget to a 997 GT3 or and its a big OR, you'll have another Exige. Whatever way you look at it you can enjoy yourself whilst you come to a decision.

They haven't even been able to give me a figure yet!
I think they're struggling as there are no identical Exiges for sale - and the ones that are for sale (at dealers) are priced £3-4k more than I paid for mine 6 weeks ago.
I can't see any reason for them NOT to payout the invoice price, but you never know...

Atom, X Bow - not something I could just jump into and drive down to Leicester for the rugby! (and you get wet when it rains )
And the mrs driving it...
They're much more just a dedicated track car

The RS may be quick off the blocks but it is not a quick car.
Compared to the Spyder it is slower when the going gets twisty. Most lap times - evo, etc - are fairly middling compared to it's sprint times.
Faster but slower
Add in residuals and I know which one I would want own in three years time
