Finally finished it. Bar the wiring and fog lamp covers but still, it's back on the road.

Right then, finally got some time away from work to upload the final few images.

I managed to get the wiring done for the dipped beam and side lights in the afternoon. Thought the HID's were playing up at one stage but managed to source the problem to a bad earth.

Anyway here are some pics of the car. (please bear in mind that I am still waiting for the fog light covers and front grille to arrive in the post)

This is an image that I forgot to include earlier on but shows the car in its most stripped form at the front. I had to remove the intercooler for access to the lower cross bar.



After having the slam panel off the car I had to fit the blobeye one. The image below clearly shows my fixing method, 6mm allen bolts in most cases with a washer on each side of the metal





Next up, I re fitted the intercooler and trial fitted the bonnet, just to make sure that the heads of the bolts I used for the slam panel didn't affect the closing of the bonnet. All was good, no issues at all.



So on I moved swiftly to the fitting of the headlamps. Very simply job, literally 3 or 4 bolts each and they were in nice and snugly





Another re check of the shut lines for the bonnet, this time with the lights fitted. Once again, all was good. A small note was that I was supplied a lock and bonnet latch with the blobeye slam panel. I decided to use this one as it was already fitted and felt that it should be like for like, not wanting to mix bug and blob parts, nit that the bonnet latch is any different. The cable was very simple to fit, probably less that 30 seconds.



Bumper needed a small amount of modification as the intercooler and pipes were catching slightly. It shows a bit in this photo as the lower corners of the bumper are pulled in slightly. A bit of trimming later though and it just about fit. Pretty tight around the pipe work for the intercooler. Currently awaiting deliver of fog lamp covers to hide the pipes.



Now just a case of bolting the wings back on, all lining up with original fixings from the buyeye wings.

Bumper and bonnet also fitted. Pretty much there just need to fine tune the shut lines.



Lights were next to wire up so the HID's that came with the them the choice. Wiring isn't my strongest point but a simple case of laying the HID kits out and un scrambling the wires soon made the job look a lot simpler.

The dipped beam gave a slight issue which came down to a bad earth. All fitted now and ready to go.



So this is how the car stands at the moment. Yet to wire in the main beam lights just due to lack of time with work commitments.

I am also about to order a smaller number plate and as mentioned earlier also awaiting delivery of the front grille and fog covers.

Next on the list will be the winglets for the front bumper, once I find somewhere that stocks them and also a front lip for the bumper.

Here we go - I'm pretty happy with the result. Especially after only really 3 days!

I paid £100 for mine second hand so this is a great deal. What fault dod you have with the headlights?

I actually really enjoyed doing the conversion so would happily do another. I do have slight reservations about working with other peoples cars as I would not be insured against any problems.

I'm happy to guide you through a conversion and may consider doing one for you if you're serious about it. I'd probably be looking around the £350 mark if I were to do it myself, depending on whether you're running a FMIC or not. There is a bit more work involved when fitting the bumper bar, bumper and inner arches if you do have the FMIC.

Where abouts in the country are you by the way?

I am able to get hold of the parts at fairly good prices due to a friend of mine working in the trade. He also does car detailing by himself and specializes in machine polishing so can get most body panel looking pretty smart. Possibly a good shout should the wings, bumper, bonnet etc not quite be in the same condition as the car

The dipped beam was turning off intermittently on the n/s and then not restarting unless the control for the lights was turned off and back on again.

A quick look at the full beam has shown that when the full beam is on, the dipped go out and vice versa. A guy a my work is building up a relay setup for me tonight as apparently the car is setup for dual filament bulbs but the H7 bulbs that are now fitted are single filament.

We will find out tomorrow if i can run full beam and dipped at the same time. I'll keep the thread updated with the news

 

Once we see if the relay setup works tomorrow I'll let you know. Id this the same issue that you had with yours?

If so I could possibly see if we could build up another set for you to install on yours.

If you get something rigged up and he's happy to do another I would be happy to pay him for his trouble. this is the same as my car with another fault of when mine are on dipped beam I have a slight glow on the high beam too which is strange. I thought about using diodes to sort the problem but the fuses didn't like it

 

My car did pass the MOT with dipped beam going out on high beam but it would be nice to have it working properly

 

I've not got the slight glow on mine but everything else sounds similar. Are yours HID or not?

I'll let you know and I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to send a setup to you if you could just cover the parts and postage cost. I wouldn't say any more than £10 max

I've not got HID bulbs. The glow does look quite good though but would not be sorry to see it go and it shouldn't really be there anyway.

A friend of mine is a car detailer and also works in crash repair. He was able to get the bumper, wings and bonnet for me at a very good price via a collection of breakers yards that he uses.

I can put a word in for you if you let me know what you are after exactly. I can pretty much guarantee that he will be able to source a front bumper for you no problem and the prices are good too

 

I'd love to see a hawkeye conversion. Was thinking that since the slam panel on my car is simply bolted on, should I wish to go hawkeye in the future, it will hopefully just be a case of bolt off / bolt on

I've gone to the hawkeye from bugeye and theres a few extra cuts required to make it all fit, i'm just waiting on the the parts to be welded on rather than bolted.

Interested to see the wiring of the lights as thats what I/ concerned about with the hawkeye hids,

good to hear about a Hawkeye conversion. The wiring is taking slightly longer than expected but i'll keep you posted about the progress on them. I currently have dipped beam but not really had a chance to get the full beam working properly yet.

Do you have any photos or possibly a build thread of your conversion?

What extra cutting was required btw?
