No it was a Escort Twincan circa 1968 ran the lotus engine from the Lotus Cortina
RS1600 Escort had the same head as a RS1800 albeit a 1836cc bottom end.

The RS2000 was always intended to be a fast road car, like a modern day Gti.
The RS1800 was built in limited numbers, so ford could say it was a production model, loaded with goodies on it to make it a better base for a rally car.
hence the comparison is not really valid.

In the world of Classic Fords these are regarded as the Holly Grail and sit in the same stable as the RS1700T and RS200
NOT to be confused with a regular RS

But that completely misses the point of why the RS1800 was created.

I nearly bought one of these around 20 years ago from a rally spares place in Burnley, the name escapes me at the moment.
£1500,i thought it was a bit expensive as it was rough around the gills..
Not the first or last car buying mistake i will make...lol..

All us older guys will have at one time had the opportunity to have bought one of these, or similar late 70`s to mid 80`s classics back in a day they were second hand car prices... But didn`t cos we fancied something that was cheap n cheerful...
There was a Guy local to mr selling a Mk1 Escort RS Turbo.... Less than 10,000 original miles..... He asked £25,000 (And Got It Too)
Similar Story on an Opel Manta GTe Exclusive.. Was bought new by owner of the supplying garage in Doncaster (Danum Motors), never registered, kept in a collection. Had less than 200 miles sold for more than £50,000.
I guess it`s not down to physical worth, but what price a buyer puts on a dream of owning something....

i know the person selling this car and anyone who is into the classic fords will know the name of the actual owner of this car and the company they ran,the reason its not being sold by him on his old ebay account is because of previous alledged form that prevents him from trading as what he used to go by so he gets people to flog stuff for him now on other ebay accounts.
only about 3 weeks ago he sold a genuine tidy mk1 lotus cortina for around 20 grand and he has had 2 lotus cortinas in classic ford magazine.
its a genuine car the rs1800 i'm told and the seller is certainly not skint infact quite the opposite although looks like it and yes they can't spell correctly but that doesn't bother them type of people
oh yeh and if you saw how he keeps his lotus cortinas and cosworths the 1800 looks like its been cherished as most of his stock is covered in **** being on a farm an all

I just dont understand how they fetch the prices, because all we're talking is a 2 door body shell, with slightly different engines or trim.
they're not even that fast or even well trimmed or even built. I can understand an untouched, time capsule or one with rally history making money: but jeez......... there are certainly some fools and their money wishing to be parted out there

doubt it, I'm old enough to remember these new ! 40K for a 70's 2 door 'scort with an 1800 engine in ????
my neighbour has a pretty tidy 77 mexico in his garage: yep its nice, its history: but I cannot see its value beyond 5-10K perhaps.
