Not really, they are 11-12 year old cars now, you could buy a 12k one with 28k on the clock, drive it up the road and the engine could let go, its pot luck.
There are several on pistonheads, cheapest one ive seen is 5k, had an engine rebuild, but I dont want a P1 (far too many cars as it is ) then there is one saying the P1 was built to rival the type R's, well how can that be? its more of a barst@rdised version of a type R, then they go on to say its lighter... shows you how much they know
You can pick up a good P1 from 6k, doesnt have to be a dog even, its what the people at the time wanted, a JDM car for the UK market, and this is what they got.
It dumped alot of the good bits off the type R as well (climate control got binned and the crappy uk aircon was fitted and they didnt go for the rear 2 pots as per the type R) though there was the option of the WR upgrades, even the rear spoiler was a nice one off (HT auto's did those for Prodrive I believe) plus the original number was "only" 500, the rest were added when the first 500 sold, thats why you see lots of W and X reg ones, the Y and 51 plate ones are the ones that they couldnt shift...
It could have been "alot" better, but this is what I.M. wanted, if Prodrive had their way then it would have been better and they would have been able to spec it from the factory.

Tony

PS, I do own a MY99 version 5 type R, she needed a little bit of tlc but is a great car, I prefer my MY03 Spec C limited though, its just a much more precise point to point car than any classic ive driven (and quicker )

The PI is a Gay toned down version of the Type r..End of story..Only thing id ever consider 'borrowing' off a p1 to enhance a Type r is the front splitter!

Type R is the real drivers car

Loved my P1, easily the best looking and most iconic scoobies ever (22bs) aside. Couldn't even consider another scooby, they went downhill after (jap spec c's aside) and don't hold a candle to the newer Evos.

DCCD is a gimmick anyway, you'd be better off with ACD/AYC

My STi 5 as full UK history. Grey import in Mar 99. Zero miles on the clock, there are many around and the reason the P1 exists was the Subaru UK response to grey imports as they did not have as good a car.

I own a P1 but my favourite is either the RB320 or a WR1........

not many subarus hold their price these days because most are desperate to sell..........

can't comment if a P1 is the best as I have not driven any others except an my99 turbo 2000.........but it wipes the floor with that LMAO

Wouldn't call it a gimmick or it wouldn't have been fitted to all of the new sti's from about 2005 onwards.
Anyway, this is the sort of thread that is just going to go down the usual route with p1 owners saying they have the best cars. Yeah they are good cars but there is better out there in the range.
If the question is uk only cars then the story changes as in my opinion the better ones never officially made it to the uk dealers

I have owned an sti impreza, and an evo 6. civic type r, etc blah blah... My P1 is buy far the best motor i have ever owned, certainly one of the quickest and best looking subarus ever produced! (and i've not spent a 100k)

The sti's were good, Prodrive took it and made it twice the car!

No question for me!

I own a p1 and i decided to buy it purely for its looks as i deem it the best looking, well maybe the rb320 on par.

Common though guys, were all subaru owners here. We shouldnt be slagging different variants off. Pick on the Evos instead.... hehe

they are 11-12 year old cars now, you could buy a 12k one with 28k on the clock, drive it up the road and the engine could let go,ID SAY IF THE ENGINE HASNT ALREADY BEEN REBUILT THEN ITS A TIME BOMB AS THESE CARS NEED TO BE USED NOT SAT IN A GARAGE

There are several on pistonheads, cheapest one ive seen is 5k, had an engine rebuild,WOULD YOU REALY BUY A P1 OR TYPE R OR ANYTHING WORTH LOOKING AT THAT CLAIMS ITS HAD AN ENGINE REBUILD AND ALL THEY WANT IS 5K? I THINK NOT

but I dont want a P1 (far too many cars as it is ) then there is one saying the P1 was built to rival the type R's, well how can that be? its more of a barst@rdised version of a type R,YOU CALL MORE REFINED BARST@RDISED? HMM

then they go on to say its lighter... shows you how much they know

thats why you see lots of W and X reg ones, the Y and 51 plate ones are the ones that they couldnt shift...

If you want grown up then buy a legacy..

And as for P1 being better looking..I dont think so..I personally prefer the look my own Type r over a P1

If I wanted a rear wheel torque bias, I would buy a rwd car. If I wanted AWD that faciliated better handling I'd buy a with an AWD with actuve centre diff and yaw control... it's a gimmick.

i agree the price of a p1 has dropped to match the type r but p1 parts are much more exspensive compared with a type r so although they may cost around the same money they cost more to take care of,just so you know what i mean p1 boot spoiler £2600 sti v6 spoiler £1100 current price new

As the P1 is classed as a limited edition your always going to pay a bit extra for that. As with anything that is limited edition.
