the p1 is obviously better than most as for the type r why would so many owners have dresssed them up to look like p1s????? you dont see a p1 stripping the spoiler and splitter off to swap them for type r parts! with the exception of litchfield and 22b the rest can bow down before the p1

Many rate the 22B as the best Subaru and best is often confused with "most desired".

A good mate of mine has one (11 registered) UK Spec 22B's whicj I have driven several times.
THey drive lovely but are not set up like a P1. The P1 was basically set up for the UK roads by Prodrive & they handle better when nearing the limits.

The Type R & the P1 and are not basically the same as mentioned. They drive totally different.
I driven Type R's and they are a lot more raw than a P1. Must admit I enjoyed the Type R & I'm certainly not running them down as they are great fun but a P1 is more refined than the rawness of a Type R.

No the P1 doesn't have a DCCD unlike the Type R, they opted for ABS instead.

I have driven many scoobs and to be honest they all drive great compared to other cars. My P1 has some mods but when I bought the car it was basically as they come and the P1 is the best scoob I've driven.

Drive one, then comment.

Guys, i own a P1 and im not going to say for 1 second that its the best Scooby ever. but to slate the car and the owners club is unfair.

Its all down to personal opinion. and what you want in a car. i was always a fan of the 3 door classic and at the time of buying i was looking at a couple of Type R's until a P1 popped up that i ended up buying after much debate. Basically i chose the P1 because it had a folder of history and receipts and was a nice clean example, not because i was told it was the best.

Dont be silly fella, i admit that the P1 is the best looking classic behind the 22b but its basically a 2 door UK Classic.....Id take a Type R WRC limited over a P1 all day everyday!

No offence like...

How do the Litchfield Type 25 and the P1/or classic STi compare handling wise?

.............. because they're a 'pretty' car!

Oh, and IIRC the P1 is basically a 2 door version 5 sti in a 2 door body shell. Still a very nice car though.

What can I say ?.....Other than snake & skullfudge above have summed up the original posters question very well indeed.

You really do need to drive/own all the cars in question to come to an educated and logical conclusion ! Rather than base ideas on prejudice and what 'people's mates say' !

ps, over at P1 web owners club, we are having a bit of a laugh about some of the very inane and narrow minded comments on this thread .. Having said that, Most replies are good genuine opinions based on fact.
Take all sorts to make a Scooby World.

Cheers.

agree the 22b does look sweet and also agree that the p1 is the best looking after that point,(of all standard scoobs!) the wrc does have good points but still isnt a p1,its the looks for me more than anything that and the exclusiveness ,ive had 4 imprezas and i admit that before i bought the p1 i was looking at type r,s untill i came across the p1 and didnt look back

A standard P1 does have its flaws but I would not change mine for a Sti 5 , 6 or whatever. I'm not saying one is better than the other, just I prefer having a UK car with full history and with better looks IMHO. 22b is the ultimate impreza but at £25,000, ownership is for more wealthy people than myself.

Deffo 22b in the looks department but what about the trouser department?

Which is the fastest standard Subaru around a track and on a 1/4 mile strip?

Would a Subaru Cosworth own a Spec C?

Latest Evo track compares current WRX STi (not a Spec C or Cosworth it has to be said) and RB5, and Evo mag have a clear preference for RB5

Does seem like p1 owners do think they have the best cars, same goes for most owners, my type r has no p1 bits bolted on and never will. 22b and ra-r I think probably have to be the best in my eyes, 22b has to be the most iconic of them all. I've tried p1's and had a vltd blobeye, also driven a large number of others. At the end of the day they are all good capable cars

ofcorse everyone is going to say there type of impreza is the best thats why we own them im glad your type r has no p1 bits bolted to it because its a type r not a P1! every1 agrees that the 22b is probably the best even though its way over priced and needs a p1 front end

Me too. IMHO, the very best non-22B to have is the WRC versions. Even the Wagon is cool and was the only other car than the P1 to have the same blue accents on the seats. The Type R, Type RA and STI RA all had the blue suede seats which are probably the best seats bar those S204 Recaos ever in an Impreza.

I'd be tempted to suggest the RA is the better all round for the UK as it has ABS which will probably be more useful than DCCD.

I had a Type RA WRC and sold it far far too quickly - the low gearing made it a bit of mission to drive any distance.

Is that the ones that have had the rear arches re built?
The P1 was "deemed" to be the best of the "UK" cars, 280ps and 2 door, the only car that really trumped it in the classics was the 22B, but that was a very limited numbered car for the UK (16) with maybe 10-12 left on the road?

Compared to a JDM STI, there isnt much difference between the P1 and its bigger JDM brother, it lacks the dccd but gains ABS (which was also deemed to be a better safety feature as they feared most UK drivers couldnt handle the dccd ) and really its just a standard version 5 running gear in a type R shell.
It still runs a JDM map on its ecu, exactly the same as a version 5 or 6 JDM STI, but it does have a little more knock correction.
It suffers all the same problems that the JDM version 5/6 STI's suffered (actually the same as any MY99/00 turbo'd subaru), and it only came in one colour on the production run (though the white one is a little more special )
Will a "mint" P1 hold its value? probably as much as a "mint" type R, they are now available from as little as 6k, with most going between 8-9k (and doubtful they will sell for that price...)

Totally agree that p1 owners think they have a superior car, i love it when it comes to the p1 been compared to the type-r. I know lets take all the best bits of a type-r (electric mirrors, climate control, dccd, r180 rear diff, 2 pot rears, white paint) stick a few badges, a front splitter, rear spoiler and some eibach springs on, paint them all the same colour (bar 2) and lets put a limited run on them and all of a sudden there are a far better car than the type r, how's that???

And every p1 owner says they handle far better than the type-r and the suspension is set up for uk roads, no there not they have got the exact same struts as a type r just lowered 15mm by the eibachs, i know i would much rather induce oversteer and realise that i will go round the bend (albeit sideways ) than rather into the kirb with understeer.

Not all P1 owners think they have a superior car. i dont. to be honest im just glad ive got an Impreza.

This thread was originally asking if the P1 was any good....not a direct comparison with the Type R.

The first Subaru meet i went to was a tunnel run after an invite from a guy on here, where i was called a CHAV for having a CHAVY P1 ?? seriously ??. so thats the kind of people this thread is going to attract.

obviously not well looked after examples will alway command a better price as with any car obviously.

the 1,s for sale at 6k usually dont last to long as always you get what you pay for buy cheap and buy twice if your looking at a p1 for 6k then its either owned by some1 who cant afford it or its a dog... if you,ve got 6k to spend on a 2door buy a nice type r

It always makes me wonder why people claim the 22b is the best Impreza?
Just because a car is rare and holds it's value doesnt make it the best, to drive the 22b is no better than a Bugeye and thats saying something!
The best Impreza will always be subjective. The P1 was 'one' of the best of it's time and still looks far better than any car made after it.
Lets not forget it is also the only official supercar Subaru ever made.
If you own one you will obviously stick up for it.
When I was looking for a car I test drove a few Type R's etc but found the rawness too much to handle for everyday use.
I may be tempted with a Spec C or similar in the future but always wondered what those extra pounds did for the car?

The P1 out of the box in standard form is a very hard thing to beat, it was set up for UK roads and the handling was by far looked upon as being better then any jdm impreza as it was set up for our roads. Plus as said how many jdm owners slam on a set of p1 rims, p1 front spoiler and if they can the rear spoiler. So to all the type r and sti owners who have fitted these parts sssshhhhhhhhh.

Is the p1 the best impreza for our roads yes, is it the best impreza built for our roads ...probably yes but start removing what makes it so suited for our roads then no it is not the best impreza ever built.

Can you go far wrong with buying one......NO if you want to mod it then as most will agree any impreza is on par with any other as they end up all having after market parts and can't not be compared which at that point it comes down to a simple classic v body shell or classics v newage and which you prefer the look of
