6 speed gearbox conversion - HELP!
Not as expensive as you may think actually
Compared to a rebuild and time off the road (with a hire car) and sourcing parts for it to go bang again down the line - I'd say there's not much in it.
Plus once it's done, it's done.

The later hawkeye boxes ARE stronger the front end is totally redesigned just sitting two cases together will show the differences. The hawkeye boxes are significantly wider around the front diff area.
That said theory goes out the window in practice. I used a TY754VN4AA box for two seasons of hillclimbs and sprints at around 400lbs/feet and it was not treated with any sympathy and it is still in good condition although now retired. And here is someone with a hawkeye 5 speed which has broke at less that 400lbs/ft.
The same can be said for 6 speed boxes, they have broken at power levels less than others are using

Not been able to give the car a proper run yet, but from what I have done it feels absolutely solid as a rock. It really has transformed the car!!!
Will report back soon
