Buses - never again!
I get on a bus once a yr to go to work for a christmas drink.
I am amazed about the collection of shell suited, stinking poor sat on, mobile phones beeping away with chav beeping noises. Jeez- how the other half live.
I can get a bus to work, but ironically I have no idea of how to get a bus home: i.e where the stops are and so on. total mystery to me !
and I like it that way.
incidentally it is illegal for a bus driver to refuse to change yr money.
some yrs ago a driver threw a girl off a bus for refusing to take her fare: i.e break her £5.00 note. I believe she was sadly raped whilst walking home.
so I'd stick that to the drivers if they fail to be able to change a tenner for a £4.00 fare.

I don't mind trains TBH so long as they are no rammed, and I do use the local tram system from time to time. The biggest benefit is not having to worry about parking...and a train from say the north of England to the south is quite fast and a relaxing way to travel.

Bus companies just don't have customers with a massive £10 to spend!
You are the idiot for thinking otherwise!
Do agree though, I hate public transport with a passion.

Tubes stink, and some of them are so far underground that they frighten the **** out of me.
Then, (and this is not meant to wind anyone up) as if that fear wasn't bad enough, you see, (how shall I say) an Asian chap with a rucksack get on.
Tubes are generally so busy that its roasting warm, people are bumping into you, you can't get a seat and you've got to hold some handle that is covered with 50 million bacteria

Being an Alfa owner I am well accustomed to using Northern Irelands amazing transport service. If i wish to go to work via bus, I have to leave at 7am to be in work for 9.30am.(its less than 20miles btw) Now this is inconvenient but more annoyingly there isn't actually a bus I can get home ffs.
If I get the train, I have to use the oldest trains that will be late and break down. When getting the train home, I get the fantastic opportunitely to use a trainstation which is situated near a wethouse and Tigers bay. It is literally a death wish walking to the trainstation when it starts to get dark.

Some of you guys on here are right snobs
Anyhow, while I have to use public transport to get to work, I use the Metro (a bit like a train for people who don't know what I'm going on about) which isn't too bad unless it's a really peak time of day and it gets too busy for my liking)
I don't like using the bus as a rule, they always seem to be busy no matter what time of day it is so I can't really avoid having to sit beside someone. I am thankful for the metro, not only is it much quicker from A to B, I can get it direct from just up the street from where I live, to use the bus, I would have to make a change (and it's further to the bus stop).

Buses are bad enough in the day but you want to try a night bus in South London
You can sit upstairs on your own, the bus be completely empty bar you and the driver and at the next stop some loon gets on with their hoody up, sits next to you whilst rocking back and forth and swearing incessantly. Not the most comfortable journey on public transport i'd ever experienced.

I travel with work quite often and generally its on a plane but in the uk, its the train, usually its depressing, went to York on one and it was full of teenage ********* making life a misery, bladdered, next one to Leeds my "reserved" seat got pinched and I got a right mouthful of the girl in it (full train) but insisted she **** off as I had booked in advanced and paid for the seat, stood there giving me evils and bitching about me on her mobile, her mate sat opposite was staring me down the whole way, I responded the only way I could, it being a Sunday evening (for a Monday morning course) after a sumptous Sunday lunch with many Sprouts, I just farted as often as I could and they were rank as well.
Occasionally it can be ok, an empty carriage, the paper but usually its grim seeing as my company doesnt pay for anything other than cheap and cheerful.

Nicest person I sat next to on a train was a guy just released from prison for GBH.
He even offered me a can of beer and a cigarette.

What a jolly nice fellow, I think.

I get where people come from when talking about trouble makers etc. who granted can be found on public transport. What I don't like is the comments like peasant wagon, loser cruisers and such like. There are plenty of people that use public transport that are far from some of the terms used on this thread. It was merely a small opinion thrown into my post.
I suppose my comment is not too far away from the reaction of some cyclists (yourself maybe included) when the 'all cyclists are dicks' comments are spouted out. Not all people using public transport are 'plebs', 'scuffers', 'peasants', 'unwashed' etc. I guess that was my point. I will admit, I was perhaps being a little over sensitive.
Maybe I should have been a little more specific than I was.

Me? I drive everywhere but the mrs can't drive and uses buses regularly without hassle.
I hadn't been on a bus in something like 9 years until recently. It was my little boys birthday and we was going to Windsor Castle.
I live outside a bus stop so asked my lad if he wanted to get the bus to the train station and train it to the "The Castle". His eyes lit up so of course that was the plan of action.
Now, the train station is not anymore than 4 miles away....the bus arrived (early) and my misses and two children got on the bus to take a seat. I told the bus driver where we was going and he said "£6.00 please"......my reply was "how much did you say? " when he repeated himself I was gobsmacked. Anyway I pull out £20 note for him to say have you got anything smaller. My misses then says she had.....so presented to him £10.
The Bus driver shock his head and said. "I'm going to have to write you a ticket"
I wasn't sure or understood him at the time so asked why am I being given a ticket. To which he replied "Look mate, no one brings onto a bus £10 or £20 notes anymore as everyone uses Oyster Card or passes. I simply don't keep change like that on the bus".
My reply was, "so it's an IOU" and I was then met with a grant and the answer of NO. I explained I hadn't been on a Bus for years and he said............I know, I can tell!! lol
Worst bit was I had to pay another £6.00 (price for two adults as kids are free). So that was £12.00 just for a approx 8 mile bus trip. Don't see the logic there myself?
I had 7 days to pay my ticket and forgot about it. So on the tenth day called them and paid it without being charged a late fee etc so something good came out of this.

I'm not a big fan of the bus, but it is necessary for some people to use them.
Before I could drive, the trip from Wolverhampton to Walsall was a nightmare, not so much the people just that I had to take three buses and get up at 6.00 am in order to be at work for 8.30.
If I am honest, I used to love those trips on the bus. The bus from the Wolverhampton bus depot to the Walsall depot was great, mp3 player, headphones and the magical ability to ignore the rude people and smile at the nice ones just seemed easy
The drive to Walsall was nice, but I didn't get the time to reflect on things as much as when I took the bus.

No you have to sist with the commoners I am afraid, not that I would know as I tried to pay with a £10 note which as this trhead shows is some sort of bus etiquette faux pas.I swear faithfully that I will never try and use a bus again, I hope they all go out of business.
