It will cost the country a substancial amount of cash - and what will it get back from that?

I guarantee that whatever budget it get is exceeded - just like those bloody olympic games
I thought the Olympics were within budget, I know that they have exceeded their predicted final costs

I might be wrong as it was a few months ago.

The olympics is over budget - they're just trying to hide it as best they can.
Its also a waste of money - for example what will they use all these new facilities for after the games are finished.
**** all - thats what.

Now then the world cup I believe they're even talking about using stadiums that don't fecking exist - thats good eh

I think Russia will get it but i so hope we do. I loved Euro 96 when I was 18! I'd be 41 when this World Cup comes round but it would be still just as amazing for the country.

We'll we will all see soon enough who gets it.
I cannot see how Russia will get it though?

Surely Portugal/Spain have better stadiums than the UK?
Certainly have a better climate - thats a given, and I would imagine the better climate would appeal to a lot of people

I still can't believe that there are people that don't want the World Cup in this country. Extraordinary!

If we don't get it, it was clearly right to fight for it. Well done to Messrs. Wales, Cameron and Beckham.

It's the market for football over there which is still somewhat untapped and that would appeal to FIFA due to the money the game could generate over there. English football is at saturation point now pretty much due to our passion for the game.

Spain doesn't have anywhere near the stadia we have and the climate probably is more of an issue for Spain as it would be Summer when the tournament is held which is not great for a predominantly winter sport.

I would have thought that Portugal and Spain might be a bit of a risk given their financial positions.

Getting to Russia won't be easy though
Will they speaka the english?
Will the infastructure cope?

I'm not saying I wouldn't want the world cup in the UK JTaylor
But ultimately whats it going to cost the taxpayer and what will we get out of it?

All for it, but only so long as we don't end up paying through the nose for it.

Fair enough, I think the consensus is that it'll be lucrative for the country. There's also the issue of national pride and international recognition that one can't really put a price on aswell as the much needed feel good factor.

Well it's a shame England didn't get it, not sure what sort of job Russia will do ... I guess we'll find out in 2018.

Anyway now to 2022 - please let it be Australia ... they know how to organise sports events properly.

Out in the first round Ok I can accept losing a bid but it is pretty laughable considering the whole infrastructure etc of the country.

Do you mean as football fans or because it will be good for the economy?

I'm not convinced either the olympics or the football world cup would actually return a profit.

Edit - Russia? Now to me, the fact that Putin didn't even bother to travel suggests he knew it was already in the bag. Clearly a corrupt system and we are better off out IMO.

Sad day for football because the World Cup is no longer about the football that will be played but everything else which surrounds it.

Have FIFA and FIA merged ?

That is the most illogical decision for the bidding of a major sporting event I can remember

Clearly money and politics talk

Qatar is more farcical than Russia

Irrespective of Panorama or the idiotic supporters at St Andrews last night we were never going to get it from the off.

Were we just unlucky or is this a case of corruption and people in fifa selling their votes?

My own personal thoughts is the latter, not impressed with the results at all.
