For out and out pace, the S-tronic is going to be the quicker car.
If memory serves me right, the manual does 0-100 in 10.9secs, and here's a review of the auto doing the ton in 10.3secs.
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9940/az6o.jpg
Not bad from a 335bhp motor, easily 9 sec 100 times when mapped

Quite suprised to see those results.
Audi is very inconsistent, shame really.

Blimey there's some proper Audi hate on here!
TBH ever since the RS2 and uR Quattro, I think they have been off the mark. Just not been concentrating enough on chassis dynamics ever since and fallen too much into the "expensive Skoda FWD boring-mobile" slot for too long now.
Of course the R8 is meant to be a blinder but how many people can genuinely run a 2 seat supercar? Not many.
They just up their power outputs more and more, rely on AWD/4WD to make them stick then forget to connect the steering properly and use the snatchiest brakes ever made.
They then stick TWO exhausts on 140bhp diesel models and then charge comedy prices to cover 2.0 repmobiles in "S" lookalike tat and kill any semblance of ride quality by dropping the suspension and adding massive wheels so Middle Management Marvin can pretend his wheezy old soot chucker is an RS4.
And then there's the A5 - HOW many of these have been stuck up my backside. I instantly know they aren't S5s so must be at the very best, 3.0TDI (or maybe the 3.0TSFI if it's used in the A5?) but are almost always 2.0TDIs with chavvy DRLs and faux coupe looks.
Okay I'm ranting now but the majority of Audis just irritate me - annoying because dad had three uR Quattros and they were brilliant.

That is the whole thing, after the last generation RS4, S3, S8, etc all of the new models including entry level (bar maybe the R8 and TT-RS), are absolute toss!
They are so trend needy that they just plonk out cars blindly!
A car costs a couple of hundred millions to develop and produce, you would think that they would make an effort.....

But Audi are great at selling "the dream" so hordes of social climbers lap them up, ignoring the fact that their £30k diesel FWD car is actually a Skoda in drag.
Got Evo yesterday - don't always agree with them but they absolutely paste the RS5 in a group test against the M3 Competition, Lexus ISF and Merc AMG (can't actually remember which one - C63 I think?!)
Oh Scooby tc - the M3 wins by a mile. It's a BMW.

of course it wins by a mile its evo mag unfortunately in the real world its a completely different story
oh and for the record the RS5 is toss, looks like an A5 with big wheels as does the RS6 look like an A6 Avant again with big wheels.Since Audi have done away with the aggressive flared arches of the previous gen RS range they have all looked way too bland for my liking and the newer M cars have lots more appeal

Doesnt sound like they have, will do or are likely to have an inferiority complex anytime soon by the sounds of things written so far. More likely to be the otherway round. Well until Audi stop pretending to do sports cars and just get on with marketing stylish, classy cars with 1st class aesthetics and design.
They really should cash in on the fact that they also own Bentley and their interiors and build are like mini Bentleys rather than letting people compare them to Skodas which are at the other end of their ownership scale. As long as they insist on convincing us that they are 'sporty' they will always be mocked. Once this gets sorted out it will then qualify them to make comments on other brand owners regarding inferiority complexes.

Audi do make a nice car but cant help agreeing with Mattee, not that your average BMW punter is a million miles different but at least it isn't a Skoda with nicer plastics and LED lights, not that there is anything wrong with Skoda, the praise heaped on the Superb is impressive.
Audi used to kind of inoffensive, they have kind of ended up as a parody of BMW in the nineties image wise.
For example the Q7, jesus, what were they thinking, makes the X5 look polite and self effacing.

You can see it from space, it costs a shedload of money, and corners like a planet.

In evo the RS5 gets a pasting. I am not sure the M3 is 'miles' ahead but it does do well.
Having driven the latest M3 I was hugely impressed. It is not that quick but it is a joy to drive.
evo have some pretty good reviewers and in all the years they were in love with Subarus no-one complained about them

Lots of opinions on here from a lot of experts....I'm on my 3rd Audi (A6 C6 3.0TDi Avant 294BHP) having already had a 440BHP B5 S4 & a 540BHP B5 RS4. I've not driven the RS5 but I have to say I think the A5 chassis was very good....but anyway a couple of short videos of souless Audis for the all the BMW lovers (I'm sure this was Scoobynet last time I was here !)

I have seen a seriously modded 110 PS Seat Ibiza from the late 90's do 270 km/h, trailing more smoke than the shuttle, it was impressive on both accounts, but looked naff!

There are seriously modded cars for every maker on the planet, so it seems like a bit of a redundancy to be honest.

yeah there was quite a bit of smoke coming from that scooby but the back wasnt half as black as the side of the car after it had been into the tyre wall earlier in the day, thats why i kept my distance before the pit straight as i didnt want to taken out too..
