Any sport becomes a nonsense when those ahead on points can manipulate the outcome by influencing 'play'.

Running the clock down so as to not start first on particular stages is farce really. It should be prepared so that all drivers have as equal chance as possible.

I also agree that there should be a big shake up of the classes and rules.

I dont know what the answer is but purpose built machines just dont seem entirely fair.

I reckon (I'm repeating myself now) that the top drivers shold be driving nera enough the same machine any of us could produce.

All classes should be affordable enough to enter so if you wanted to go up against Seb Loed et al then you can.

If you would rathr enter a different class just because you prefer it (maybe less BHP, RWD, whatever) then the option is there.

But to me its seems unfair that Loeb is seen as the best Rally driver ever because to me he has an advantage over many people to start with. Granted he's the best driver in his class but you cant rule out the fact that there could easily be a better driver than him around who hasnt got the advantages he has.

Ok, you might say such a guy would get noticed driving in other classes but I dont think this is neccessarily so.

Without wishing to drone on I think we all agree that different cars have a different fell hence drive differently.

Whose to say there isnt a group N driver for instance who may noy be outstanding in his class but if given a pop in a WRC machine could really get a feel for the car and out shine Loeb. It could happen.

So I think we should reverse that notion and ban WRC cars maybe group N also and come up with new classes that give all a fair pop at the top.

But having said all that I accept that I might still have not quite got the grasp of things in rallying.

Not ranting here mind.

P.S - - Nowt wrong with a bit of British Leyland. Granted they are utter crap but the few that are left should be preserved for posterity. Crap or not they are still an iconic part of British motoring history. I quite enjoy seeeing the odd Allegro or Marina go past. Which is very very rare. How many do you even see at classic car shows? I dont see hardly any.

They all rotted away sadly, so we ought to protect the few that are left.

I like Clarkson et al but they ought to have pianos dropped on their heads for failing to see why we should protect these fine specimens.

Fine in the sense that they are the best of the worst.

I have to say myself that i prefer to watch the JWRC now and the S2000wrc as there are more manufacturers and more competitive rally's. Due to the lack of power and electronic aids it's all down to drivers and how hard the push the machines. Therefore making a more compatative rally. The same a F1,they have banned traction control and it has shaken things up. Back to basics is the answer i think.

I agree. Sometimes things need to go backwards in order to progress. Banning group B was sort of the same thing.

Funnily enough Kev I have a few vivid memories of Allegros when they in production.

When I was in primary school I travelled on a contract bus to St Alban's Catholic Primary before going to the comp with Victoria.

Back then the bus would go through Soffryd and the garage that now has all the Jags outside it used to be a British Leyland dealership.

I can remember passing there daily and seeing a line of brand new Allegros all out the front. It was a depressing sight.

I have always loved American muscle cars and as a small boy would watch the Dukes of Hazzard and wonder in bewilderment at why Bo and Luke had a Charger whilst Daisy (in the really early episodes) had a Plymouth Roadrunner.

I couldnt get my head round why America could build such beautiful looking and sounding cars for the masses and here in Britain we get the Allegro.

I also remember seeing a white Allegro in Abertillery with a front splitter fitted to it. On the splitter off center (like where evo's have their number plates) the owner has fitted a Trans Am Badge.

Trans Ams weren't strictly muscle cars, but I remember thinking it was affront to the Trans Am marque that some nutter had fitting the badge to a bloody allegro of all things.

Its a funny old world though because I still love muscle cars now but I am picky so only refer to cars built between 1964 and 1970, even though a few early 70's cars were still very powerful.

But now I think that most of what the American build these days is utter crap.

If I ever win the lottery I would get chip Foose to NASCAR prepare a Plymouth Roadrunner with the 426 CU Hemi. That is just a dream though so I'll be more realistic and stick with me Scoob.

The S2000 in 2011 should spice things up in WRC and the FIA should have granted Sabastian Loeb a licence to drive in formula 1. Being rejected for his lack on single seater experience in a joke considering he has won the WRC now for last 7 years and his 8th place in F1 practice last year with Red Bull shows he has the skills necessary to compete on the F1 stage. Sabastian Loeb is a true professional who could go on to win in any form of motorsport and shouldn't be blamed for being miles better than any other WRC driver purely because of his dedication an raw talent.

Back to WRC, I have just trawled the BBC Sport news web pages. The last mention of the WRC was in March 2010. It was about Raikonnen going WRC from F1.

Great coverage then.

That would be good.

I used to follow the RAC every year all over the UK. Took a week off work to do it and it was brilliant. Now I cant even be arsed to watch my home event on the telly let alone go out to watch it in the forests.

I think that they should have new stages on as many rallies as possible. If they brought in new stages, it would be new to everyone.
Loeb has been rallying for years and this does have its advantages but new stages make it new to everyone.

There's plenty of countryside out there to make it more competitive

What about letting the 2wd lot start stages before them as well. The ground is usually pretty good when the WRC boys go out, (well as best as can be) but only a few cars have been out on it, not rallied on. So it's better for Loeb who's usually out first

What do you lot think about weight ballast??? Someone mentioned earlier I think. Would that affect the car negotiating jumps?

Agree with Dan too. Got to level the playing field!!

I brought up the success ballast,i think if it's mounted in the right place then there wouldnt be any effects on the car. Would be fitted towards the centre of the car rather than in the passenger footwell like the touring cars.
